Bit of a boring Sunday arvo so I'm playing with some status run options (no, I don't consider myself a loser )

JQ have some good Starclass fares to Japan right now. The ex OOL flights are $499 each way. The NRT routes are a little tricky, but I've found the following to Osaka:

Friday Morning:
JQ23 OOL-CNS
JQ25 CNS-NRT
JQ25 NRT-KIX

Prices at $499, lists on the JQ website as 3 different flights on the same booking (even though two share a flight number)

Saturday Night:
JQ20 KIX-OOL

This leg is $479 making it $978 return.

I add this up as:

JQ23 - 920NM = 60SC
JQ25 - 3638NM = 120SC
JQ25 - 306NM = 40SC
JQ20 - 4468NM = 120SC

TOTAL = 340SC or $2.88 per SC plus about 15K points for SG

Only issues I can see is JQ25 crediting as one flight (so it takes 40SC off) or JQ for some reason only crediting for the whole OOL-KIX journey (I've never tried connections with them before).

One night at KIX can be had for $270ish at the airport hotel or quite a bit cheaper in town (no idea about transport).

Other concern would be a grilling from Japanese immigration, otherwise it seems ok?

JQ25 will only credit as 120, if you are searching/booking flights OOL-KIX, due to being the same flight number. I have also recent;y searched this to find the return via CNS on 2 different JQi flight numbers.

I think I have seen at SYD-Japan (can't remember which city) very occassional show as SYD-OOL-CNS-Japan. But maybe I was dreaming.

I suspected that would be the case. Although it seems odd that it lists three seperate flights on the ticket as opposed to just two. If I booked a QF ticket on QF1 SYD-BKK and on the same ticket BKK-LHR (as opposed to SYD-LHR), would it credit as one or two sectors?

Still doesn't seem to be terrible value. Convienient that it can be done over a fairly short period of time (and duty free can offset the costs a little!)

You won't get SC's for OOL-CNS either even though you have booked and paid for this as "Star Class".

JQ has been doing this the past few months. I fly monthly to either NRT or KIX from Melbourne and for the past few months only the OOL-NRT/OOL-KIX (and reverse) sector has attracted SC's and points. I have written and emailed to JQ about this and finally last week got a call in Japan which I couldn't take. The guy in customer service said he didn't have an incoming phone line for me to call him back!!!

Not the happiest of customers of JQ at the moment either about the SC/points policy or their response. I initially followed advice here about contacting Simon Westaway but he did not respond. Loyalty is apparently irrelevant to JQ. Sorry to go off on my own tangent.

A similar conundrum resulted in me joining AFF on the advice of a QF CSA, and the rest is history. My situation back then and the official answer from QF suggested that you could book QF1 SYD-LHR and if you were to not get on the plane for the BKK-LHR segment you would still be able to earn points for the whole booked flight. I would love to test that one day, but I guess the main point is it is a complex area.

There used to be flights in queensland that were BNE-blackwater-emerald on one flight number and then emerald-BNE on another. It was possible to book BNE-blackwater return and then earn on all 3 segments, even with the Blackwater-Emerald being the same flight number. Can you book NRT-KIX separately? If so then it might be the same result, or even CNS-NRT return, with the return being via KIX.

Damn you for giving me ideas.
Evil I tells you, Evil!

I visit Japan 4-5 times per year, always go OOL-NRT return. Couple of times been routed via KIX and got the 40SC.

Osaka is a great place for a night or two, lots of nightlife, fun people.

My hangout is Shibuya, 2 nights max, not much sleep, way too much fun and a day long board of directors meeting. Next visit is mid June.

I guess this thread a bit moot currently ... what with now with having to pay additional for SC's and all.

Especially since the Max option don't go on sale. When the base fares go on special, the Plus/Max options stay at the original prices, so the days of $1k for 200+ SCs are well and truly over. :(

Mel/Bkk/Mel on JQ 29/30 can still be bought for under $1,800 (Business Max) and will earn 240 SCs.. Can be done without a Bkk stopover (JQ30 departs about 2 hours after JQ29 arrives) if all you need are the SCs. SC earn rate = $7.50 / SC.

QF/BA J Lounge in Bkk is OK and normally quite. For WPs there is a QF/BA F lounge just across the hall from the J Lounge.
