I’m not particularly religious, in spite of my Father, Granfdfater and Uncle all being Anglican clergy. But I do have one bug bear, and that is the systematic erosion of the beliefs and festivals to which we have enjoyed for many years, in favour of some “Vanila” and supposedly less offensive social construct.
I am not Australian (but my grandma is) but I enjoy and celebrate everything that is Australian, I am pleased and grateful to be here.
I am happy for different peoples to come here and add to the rich fabric of Australian society, but I am not happy to see the established aspects of our society sidelined to appear inoffensive.
I’m sure there will be many opinions different from my own, and that too is one of the great things about living here.
So my call out to Jetstar is dispense with the wish washy “Happy Holidays” (spoken with North American accent) and Call it what it is. “Christmas”.
Merry Christmas everyone.

If I had of got a Happy Holidays email from Jeststar I would have lost it.

For petes sake, I spend every 2nd christmas in a country that is >90% muslim, and there is Merry bloody Christmas signs *everywhere*, and hijab wearing shop assistants saying Selamat Natal to every customer.

PC tosspots. dont get me started.

I suppose I should add, that I am not so sure that (Muslim) migrants are the problem, but rather the resident apologists.

Couldn't agree with you more GPH. Totally irritated by this Happy Holidays nonsense. It's either Merry Christmas or Happy New Year, or both. Why would one offer celebratory greetings for someone taking holidays, even more so given that many people wont be taking holidays at this time of year. When I got the email from Jetstar I immediately spat the dummy, and deleted it immediately.
From time to time I watch the SBS Food Network channel, and this has been full of Happy Holidays the last couple of weeks, keeping me continually annoyed. So Jetstar added to my grumpiness. :):)

Yep. But it’s also confected outrage as those groups who are presumed to take offence just don’t. We have Jewish and Muslim friends who enjoy many of the Christmas traditions. And check out the amazing Christmas decorations in Dubai, Hong Kong and Singapore. Way better than anything we do.

Merry Christmas everyone.

I’m not especially big on religion and I also found the JQ email irritating. But irritating is what I’ve come to expect from JQ.

As a former shift worker, I always found being wished happy “holiday” when I’m working to be annoying. Said the wrong way, even patronising.

I’m currently in NYC so hearing “happy holidays” a lot. I’m biting my tongue where there is no visible acknowledgement of Christmas.

However, in places with Christmas trees, or any other symbol of Christmas, I’m making a point of stressing “Christmas” when returning the wishes.

I can hand on heart say that receiving an email saying Happy Holidays or Merry Christmas doesn't impact me. The goodwill in the message to me is lost when it is mass sent out to their database and i am one of say 500,000 receiving it. It feels contrived and lacking in personalisation or care about me as an individual. So, regardless of what two words are said it gets deleted.

Please enjoy further outrage courtesy of the Qantas Advisory Panel email Season's Greetings from Qantas :)

Best wishes for the upcoming year

Everyone at Qantas Advisory Panel is wishing you and yours every joy over the Holiday Season. With it being a time for family and friends, we will not be sending as many surveys over the Holidays but will be looking forward to your opinions in 2018.

Selamat ulang tahun @theblank.
Like you said, here every shopping centre, supermarket or large store has a Christmas tree and Merry Christmas decorations.
Australia: land of confused messages...

Well that’s that, for another year at least. Now back to the serious business of maintaining status. :)

Many people take off the period encompassing Christmas and new year. So it is a holiday season. Not only is it PC, but it also nicely encompasses the whole period?
