Hi There
we are returning from Honolulu with Jetstar on September 17th. We would like to make sure we are booking the BEST economy seats for our family of 4.

The closest 4 seats I can see to the front of the plane are 11 G H J and 12 D - we prefer the window seats plus one aisle....

Seatguru is telling us that these seats have limited recline so I called Jetstar and they said its the same recline as other seats??

Now I am confused - how can I get an accurate answer?

Thanks
Bec

No idea what the recline is like in Y but on my recent trip in J (JQi version) the seat had very little recline. Barely worth it. Doubt you'll get much in the back.

Thanks
I guess what I'm asking is
Are these particular seats worse than others in that economy section?

If it's the same configuration as for the coughet trip Jetstar does then I'm not aware of any difference in the recline.

I can say that I was bitterly disappointed with my Dreamliner experience. It's not a very good plane and/or seat layout.

Not long after I returned I recall Ray Hadley from Sydney's 2GB giving a massive spray about his experience on the Jetstar Hawaii experience, and whilst I wouldn't normally say this, I had to agree with everything he said.

Because of my Dreamliner (more like nightmareliner) experience I wont ever fly Jetstar again, even if it means paying more for another airline or taking a non direct route.

Seatguru is not always accurate, especially for non US-based airlines.

There are a few 'warning' notes which they apply to almost every group of particular seats, no matter whether it's accurate or not... these include 'may have limited recline' for just about every economy seat at the rear of a cabin against a bulkhead (you can check seat maps for a range of other airlines and you'll see the same thing, even for QF planes which have normal recline). Others are 'may suffer from proximity to WCs [and/or] galley', and so on.

I can't advise on best seats for a group of 4 however.

So is it the plane or the seat layout? I'm interested to know why it's not a very good plane in your opinion?

For me... it's a noisy plane! I arrived without a dry nose and throat - which was great, but the noise was quite an issue.

I dunno what airlines are really supposed to do with economy class seating though... 3-3-3 seems about right (2-4-2 is very generous).

If in doubt go bulk head for leg room and no front seat in the face if available, but could be next to galley and loo. failing that, one seat behind the other and family YOU in front with less recline for those behind. Pity those in Y can't use the Knee Defender :)

What noise? The plane is so quiet you can actually talk to people without yelling...

high pitched whining noise... on both my 787 flights, and confirmed after searching some YouTube videos on the same topic. Forward cabin is located right on top of the engines. Also considerable noise from the air circulation system.

a380 is quiet. 787 I thought was on par with a 777.

some interesting discussion on 787 noise sources here (takes a few posts until someone says what it actually is): 787 Cabin Hum — Tech Ops Forum | Airliners.net

Quote from a reply:
It's in that frequency range where people above a certain age can't hear it

Happy to report I can still hear it :p

Noise very apparent in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lbR80J8zmLg (it starts out noisy, but check out from about 1:45 onwards :()

A couple of JQi 787 experiences in Y for me. IMO the 787 is really not that great a plane (as a passenger). And the JQi version of it is pretty ordinary (as you might expect). And yes, the seat recline is minimal.

Having done a few JQ 787 (and indeed 330 and 320) flights I got no issue with it. Nice quiet aircraft, OK but not generous pitch, and decent AVOD... That said I preferred my 787 flight on Norwegian

When the 747 first came out, then the 777 and later the A380 they were all knockouts. The 787? Meh... just another plane really. Quite nice but even the windows are disappointing and can be really ugly at times! Of course the airlines might think differently.

Whenever a new aircraft comes out the airlines say how good its going to be for the pax and show amazing versions with more seat room and benefits for the travellers. Seldom ever really translate into what you fly in. Since Jetstar introduced the 787 i don't fly with them because the J cabin is a huge step backwards from the a330 and the 3x3x3 in Y would never get my $$. Shame cause i love the timing day flight home from Bali. Thank goodness Air Asia has a day flight back now also.

Air Asia's premium 'flat bed' is probably the best of the LCC options. But their economy 3-3-3 is about an inch narrower than JQ's 787.

Thanks Jessica Tam I couldn't find the edit button on the new Android app.

hi everyone - thanks for that - Ive called Jetstar firstly they advice yes seats 11 g-j are limited recline - 5 inches? and then i got a response from custom care (head office) and they said in fact no there no limitation on the recline ...lol so confusing i can see there is a bathroom behind us.....but its a dayfight so thats a bonus with kids i guess...and it looks like that front section in economy is its own little mini cabin??? thoughts?
