I hope this is the right place. thought I would share my recent Jetstar cancellation experience. We had booked Jetstar J Sydney Denpasar, returning evening of 16 June. Flight out fine, with access to First lounge courtesy of my wife's P status. We enjoyed two weeks in Bali (avoiding Kuta) and finished with 3 nights staying in a club suite at the Intercontinental Jimbarin Bay.

The airport check in was easy, with 10:35 pm departure on time. Come 9 pm and "flight delayed to 2:25 am due to weather". No further news until 1 am with "cancelled" showing. There was no advice on what to do next apart from another passenger coming back to the lounge to say she had heard we need to go back into check in. We milled around in check in for 45 minutes and watched as two staff started to deliver luggage from the hold using luggage carts. (4 bags per cart).

Finally a staff member told some of us within earshot that buses would be coming to deliver us to an Ibis hotel with a new scheduled flight for same time on Friday night. You would have to wonder what sort of hotel has 200 odd rooms available at 2 am. We had heard about the quality of this hotel and had no intention of getting on the bus. I rang the Intercontinental and they were great. They were full but there had been a late checkout and they said they would get the room cleaned and send a car to collect us. No club suites available but we could still access the club facilities plus complimentary massages and 6 pm checkout. (See photo of us enduring cancellation)

There was no advice from Jetstar on new arrangements and I didn't trust their departure information on their site or the fact that we had apparently been rebooked on a new flight for Friday night with same seat numbers. I called a friend in Australia to speak with them to confirm there was actually a flight scheduled. It wasn't until 4:40 pm on Friday that they sent a text to confirm the flight.

Check-in was chaotic with people lined up for three scheduled departures.

The good news is that we actually departed that night and only an hour late.

As far as the flight experience goes, their business cabin is adequate and service is pleasant but I would never fly with them again. Next time will be Garuda. We flew J with them to Bali a couple of years ago and I thought their service, food and bed were better than my Qantas J experiences.

This is a common issue with Virgin in Asia too. Limited Infrastructure on the other end with usually disorganised outsourced ground crew never seems to run smoothly.

I was in coughet last year flying Virgin, the aircraft hadn't even left Perth yet, the Thai ground crew just could not see my logic, they kept reinforcing the aircraft was on the way...1hr before departure 7hr delay lol

A moderator moved it to 'travel resources: trip reports and trip photos'.

While I don't love Bali and prefer Philippines and Sri Lanka as Philippines in particular has outstanding beaches and Sri Lanka a pleasant vibe, your photo of the two feet is extremely well taken and must make many of us who are in the depths of winter want to get on a plane (although not a Jetstar one!) and head for southeast Asia (prior to the typically worst of the typhoon season).

Same resort. At breakfast time. Bali Intercontinental is our favourite place in Bali. Hope to be there in September. Club of course.

Not on Jetstar I trust. We have stayed in the club a couple of times. Apart from the other benefits the complimentary drinks from 4:30 are value for money considering the high cost of wine there. We stayed at a couple of other places prior to the Intercontinental this trip including the Fairmont in Sanur. Intercontinental is better.
That is the first time we stayed in Sanur and to me it has all the restaurants and shops that Seminyak has to offer without the crowds and heavy traffic.

Just don't fly jetstar is my advise.

They've shafted me several times (much worse than your description) and as a result they are banned!

Our friends flew Jetstar from Adelaide all economy flight and they hated it. We went with Garuda J two years ago to Bali and they were great. I shouldn't have let myself get talked out of them this time. Advantage of them is that they arrive around lunch time rather than late at night.

Garuda dont fly out of Adelaide. Just jet* and tiger. Sigh.

Unfortunate the issue with any airline in an outstation.
Plane goes tech, and they are in trouble.

Limited ground staff (most likely contractors) compounded by Jetstar's general lack of communication...

While Garuda is better flying out of Bali, they could equally have similar problems on your outbound flight from Australia

Look out then. Some of our other friends were due to fly back on the previous Sunday night and had flight cancelled. They fell for the ibis bus trip. Said it was a dump.

They were told their flight was rescheduled to 3pm on Monday, got to the airport at 1pm and finally flew out at 3 am Tuesday. You may have seen one of them being interviewed on the news.

At least if you fly out of Sydney or Melbourne on Jetstar there is the J cabin on the Dreamliner which I didn't mind. Row 1 or 3

I know. It adds so many hours to the flight though. But on the other hand F lounge!!!!

I'd prefer to take my chances in Sydney. More options and easier to communicate. An unscheduled stay in Sydney has attractions

Yes. We had a pleasant late lunch in the F lounge before departure. Easier for us to decide on Sydney or Melbourne departures though, coming from Canberra. No direct flights from there

Interesting report.

The trouble is, I am pretty much forced to fly Jetstar.
No one is forcing you to fly Jetstar. As mentioned you can fly via SYD or MEL or even via SIN and KUL as a one-stop itinerary.

I really don't understand the must fly direct mentality. I will fly via the airports I want with the aircraft I want to fly. Yes I know travelling with infants or young kids could be difficult but that's it. Most other excuses are in the mind.

P.S. Off topic but I am planning a Oneworld award for early next year and realise I am only using 11 sectors. What a waste. I was having nightmares last night and couldn't sleep. Can't think of anywhere else to add to trip.
