Hey there,

I've booked a Jetstar award ticket in 'Business' for Perth to Osaka via Cairns. However, the Perth to Cairns leg is in economy (as only Cairns-Osaka on the 787 has business).

Given the business redemption price covers the whole route, do you think I would have much success in asking Jetstar (or Qantas?) to allocate an exit row seat on the Perth-Cairns flight (normally $26) free of charge ? If not, how about even a standard seat?

Also am I correct in assuming this ticket doesn't include Qantas Club access beforehand in either Perth or Cairns?

Thanks,
BL

I'm not sure about lounge access in Cairns. But I don't think you would be entitled to any extra benefits from Perth to Cairns because I don't think you will have actually paid business class rates for that flight. How many points did you pay exactly? I bet it was the equivalent of a J redemption CNS-KIX and a Y redemption PER-CNS. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I paid 57,600 points for the whole route. The economy price for the whole route is 28,800 (exactly half). It's my understanding that for mixed class redemptions, you pay the full rate of the higher class?

Interesting... I thought QF had fixed this up! Unfortunately I think the answer is still "no", although I believe you get a baggage allowance for the whole trip on a QFF reward flying JQ. Hopefully someone can confirm about lounge access in CNS.

If it makes you feel any better, it would have been 54,400 points booking the PER-CNS (in Y) and CNS-KIX (in J) flights separately. So it's only ~3,000 points difference.

No access in CNS without a " Max bundle" I'm afraid.
It's a third party lounge in the CNS international terminal.

How about the domestic Qantas Club? We arrive from Perth at 6am and depart again at 11:35am. It would be nice to rest and freshen up in the QC before going over to the international terminal, especially since we also are traveling with friends in economy (which they can then gain access with a one-time QC club pass)

Any lounge access or on board 'extras' will be determined by your boarding pass, not the ticket price you might have paid. So in this case, unfortunately no lounge access or exit rows for free (although you can try and snag them during on line check in or ask at the airport).

Is the PER/CNS on JQ or QF?

You could always ring the QP in PER and ask them about lounge access in PER due to an onward flight connection on JQ in J.

You would need to store your checked baggage in lockers (assuming there are lockers) on arrival in CNS before using the QP at CNS domestic as JQ in PER will only check bags to CNS and checkin for the KIX flight won't open until about 3 hours prior.

PER to CNS is also on JQ - it's booked on the same ticket.

So you mean JQ don't through-check luggage from Perth to Osaka then, even on the same itinerary?

Yes that's correct. Bags will only be checked from PER to CNS. I don't know whether JQ staff at domestic terminals are trained in international checkin procedures.

The only exception seems to be if the first leg is a JQi flight or tag flight so it's either arrived from an overseas city or continuing to one so it's treated like an intl to intl connection the same as MEL JQ SIN EK DXB etc so JQ international staff would be doing the checkin.

There are examples like CNS/SYD/HNL JQ16 to JQ3, CNS/SYD/SIN, JQ16 to QF5, MEL/SYD/HNL JQ36 to JQ3. The domestic legs have to be operated by thd 788 and depart/arrive from international terminals.
