firstly hello, long time reader, first time poster

i have a question relating to jetstar and qff points

i just booked two starclass tix to tokyo for a friend and myself. as i understand these are eligible for QFF points/status credits

Whilst i was booking, despite repeated attempts i was unable to add my QFF number in.

I then called the jetstar phoneline and the girl on the other end couldn't do it either??
her explanation was that since i was a new QFF member (membership is about 1 or 2 months old) i might not be on their system "cos qantas usually send us all the updated memberships 3 months or so after they start". when i asked her to try again she became quite rude (i just said dont worry about it then and hung up)

Sounded like rubbish to me but i thought i'd see what the people in the know on this forum thought ...

i'm thinking of calling up again and asking them to put in the two zeros before and one zero after the QFF number (wasn't aware of this when i first booked OOL-NRT)

Welcome aboard vik.

I can't speak for how JQ obtains information on QFF memberships from QF, nor have I had any problems with this before.

However, don't worry about it too much. If you're unable to update the booking with your QFF details before you fly, you can easily claim for these points online or by posting/emailing copies of the boarding passes and tickets to the Qantas Frequent Flyer Service Centre once you've travelled.

Another welcome :)

I'd certainly try again but as thewinchester said, it can be done after you've flown. They do certainly have some access to the whole QFF list since it will verify your name against the QFF number while booking. While it sounds odd, it certainly would fit the image of the Jetstar system being often a manual hack of a process. That said I have had their call centre staff tell me truly random rubbish before, such as a codeshared Qantas flight was actually a charter - just for me - so I couldn't change it (even though they had already given me a QF booking reference already).

I’ve had a similar experience with a new membership number, it was last year and I booked flights for my mum and me. Her number wouldn’t go in, and it wouldn’t go in after the booking was made, on the phone, or at the airport. But submitting a missing milage claim after the flight worked.

So what they tell you could be true. I didn’t really think about it too much.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Okay thanks for that ... i suppose i'll try again closer to the flight (holding on to BPs etc may be troublesome for me - always losing bits of paper)

Now to figure out a 2 week Japan itinerary ...

You don’t really need the BP’s though they could be useful if JQ asked for them. When submitting a missing milage request all you need to know are your flights details… flight number, time, origin, destination, names…

Always keep your BP's or at least a legible phone/camera shot of it (at least until you get credited for the travel).

+1 - the initial credit request does not need a BP but I have been asked for a JQ BP in the past.

Does the name on your QFF card match the name in the booking exactly?
A mate of mine had probs with Jetstar bookings as his name is Collin, however his QFF card was incorrectly spelt as Colin (minus 1 L). This caused problems whenever booking with J*. He had never bothered to have QFF resolve it until this problem with J* kept coming up.

interesting you should mention that ... my name matches exactly but my title on the QFF card is different to that on my Jetstar booking

(the Jetstar booking matches my passport)

Does your QFF status come up on Jetstar boarding passes like it does on QF boarding passes?

Just curious, as I haven't flown Jetstar since becoming a QFF member.

Just checked my two recent JQ BP's from May and June, and QFF/OW status is not printed on them.

QFF or OW status doesn't mean much when flying JQ anyway, unless you go to access a lounge - and you *should* have your relevant membership card on hand for access anyway otherwise checking status & entry entitlements may be refused.

Did you book on a non-points earning fare (eg.Jetsaver) or QFF earning fare (JetFlex)?
I wonder if it displays then?..
