What yesterday was the harsh looking Draft Decree has now been signed off.

As the article says, the decree covers the region of Lombardy and the 11 provinces of Modena, Parma, Piacenza, Reggio Emilia and Rimini in the region of Emilia-Romagna; Venice, Padua and Treviso in the region of Veneto; Asti and Alessandria in Piedmont; and the province of Pesaro and Urbino in the central region of Marche.

The decree details from Reuters:
  • ITALY DRAFT DECREE TELLS PEOPLE NOT TO ENTER OR LEAVE REGION OF LOMBARDY AND 11 PROVINCES IN OTHER REGIONS
  • ITALY'S DRAFT DECREE SAYS SCHOOLS IN LOMBARDY AND 11 PROVINCES WILL REMAIN CLOSED UNTIL AT LEAST APRIL 3
  • ITALY DRAFT DECREE ON CORONAVIRUS SHOWS NEW RESTRICTIVE MEASURES FOR NEW AREAS IN REGIONS OF LOMBARDY, VENETO, EMILIA AND PIEDMONT
  • ITALY DRAFT DECREE URGES PEOPLE NOT TO MOVE AROUND INSIDE AREAS COVERED BY DECREE EXCEPT FOR ESSENTIAL WORKING NEEDS AND EMERGENCIES
  • ITALY DRAFT DECREE SAYS ALL LEAVE FOR HEALTHCARE WORKERS CANCELLED IN LOMBARDY AND 11 PROVINCES
  • ITALY DRAFT DECREE SAYS ALL GYMS, SWIMMING POOLS, HEALTH CENTRES AND SPAS TO CLOSE IN THE SAME AREAS
  • ITALY'S DRAFT DECREE CLOSES ALL SKI RESORTS, MUSEUMS, CULTURAL CENTRES IN SAME AREAS
  • ITALY'S DRAFT DECREE SAYS ALL SHOPPING CENTRES TO CLOSE AT WEEKENDS IN SAME AREAS
  • ITALY'S DRAFT DECREE CLOSES ALL SKI RESORTS, MUSEUMS, CULTURAL CENTRES IN SAME AREAS
I've been following the spread of the virus on the map in the following article (which gets updated every day), and a week and a half ago, most of southern Italy didn't have any dots - and now it is well dotted.

Certainly looking grim.
Regards,
Renato

Fairly standard types of social distancing measures. Australia's emergency response planning also includes social distancing measures, which would be implemented on the basis of medical advice and other national interest considerations IIRC.

Actually to be fair, no country is able to fully protect its population from this pandemic because there is no means of detecting asymptomatic carriers...

Sad that two vectors of keen interest to most AFFers 🛳🚢⛴ & ✈🛫 playing such a lead role in assisting spread...

Must be odd living at the borders of affected areas.

Where we stay in Italy is 40 or 50 meters from the Treviso border.

Which means that neighbours 50 meters away are in lockdown, whereas the closer neighbours are free to do whatever they wish.

Renato

That's not grim, China did something similar and now their new cases are down to about 3% of their peak in 3 weeks, seems imminently sensible to me.

Take them wine, cheese and radicchio, and toilet paper, and leave it on the boundary. :)

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Of course that means you have to trust the Chinese figures. They are desperate to get their factories up and running.

Two things.
1. It is said that for every 100 tests France (et al) has made, Italy has done 1000. Italians 'blanket test'whole communities. They are making damn sure they get every little bit of info. I think we'll learn HEAPS from Italy that we never could learn (or trust) from China. It may be late, but no later than the month+ it took china to change their announcements that the SarsCov2 virus was NOT transmittable from human to human. Actually, it took them from December to beginning of Feb to decide to tell us that. They were in denial. I think italy is doing a great job. They're not denying anything. Unlike all these deadly silent countries. India. Indonesia...and the USA, who barely have gotten out of the barn with their testing.
2. Their PM, or president or whatever he is, blasted Milanos for not taking things seriously. He said (in not so many words) that they didn't want to give up their shopping and restaurants and bars', and now they're paying for it. I think the lockdown is brave. He has to be, Italy is getting the life squeezed out, literally.
oh, ok, and
3. As I said, not as bad as the USA. Stuffing around. And What about stupid us? getting into close contact fistycuffs over dunny paper,....like TOUCHING eachother in the stores.... AND that huge sporting event. WTH??
and that idiot doctor(sorry, don't want to upset anyone, just my opinion) who went to work unwell, who "didn't ever in my wildest dreams think i had corona virus" (and that's why he tested himself??) and the AMA said 'he didn't contravene any rules.' Well, I think the AMA should have stood up for the Victorian minister who was 'flabbergasted at his behaviour' instead of protecting one of the boys. I wonder how all his colleagues and patients feel right now? And everyone telling us not to panic. Half the nation in a major dunny roll panic, and the other half as comfy as anything, barely even registering any drama. Talk about a nation of half wits. Because it's happening 'over there' , it doesn't affect us?? What...we have to have a bushfire to get us going???

I meant the grim part being all the little dots (outbreaks) on the map over southern Italy, as well as across middle and northern Italy, which weren't there a week and a half to two weeks ago.

Also dots such as on Verona and Vicenza only had three or four people on them a week ago, and now they're at 52 and 37. Similarly, Rimini had about eight two week ago, now it's 104 and the place is locked down (i'm sort of keeping tabs on places we visited four and a half months ago).

The increased number of locations and the increase in numbers at the locations looks extremely grim to me - sort of out of control.

Renato

Knowing their sense of humour, those on the non-lockdown side may show up at the border pointing pitch forks at those on the lockdown side.

I'm sure they're stocked up on wine and cheese, with six months supply before anyone heard of coronavirus.
Cheers,
Renato

We spoke to our friends in Pigra last night. There is apparently a bit of confusion re the movement of many people who do the short hop to work in Switzerland each day. Conflicting messages at Ticino where many travel

Renato ignote the little dots just starting in Italy. It is just because they are now seriously testing and looking.

It is now known that Italians were amongst the earliest to get it from China and then it had over a month to multiply as they only thought they had a winter spike in pneumonia and so spread was rampant. This is why Italians have been so active in spreading Covid 19 around the world.

Italy is acting now, but they were very slow out of the blocks to act properly.

It will be interesting to see if after a late start that they can succesfully apply the handbrake on infections.
