AFFers appreciate airlines have a perishable product in seats and like hotels with rooms, all sorts of strategies must be relied upon to fill them (hopefully at an acceptable yield to the operator and its shareholders.)

There can however be examples of poorly timed advertising from our winged friends.

Today a QF ad hit my inbox.

It was headlined 'Explore electric Hong Kong' and gave lots of reasons why one ought visit.

Although postponed by today's announcement that the 'extradition Bill' will be 'suspended' - the one that's been opposed by up to a million Hong Kongers in the streets - unfortunately the locals have more been affected by gas, of the 'teary' variety, than enjoying any 'electric' atmosphere.

There were also some poorly timed Ethiopian Airlines ads recently I saw that struck me as questionable given that was an airline that had suffered a major recent aircraft crash with significant loss of life.

To be fair, major mainline and LCC airlines are mostly very safe - safer than road travel by a large margin - but have you seen any such ads that you thought could have been a little better timed?

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.
