Hi all

A "lowly" FF silver here. With a couple of international trips booked on QF, and some heavy domestic travel next year, I'd like to maximise my leisure time and join Qantas Club. Unfortunately I won't fly enough to qualify for SG, so paid up Club is my only option.

Do the Qantas Club phone staff have any flexibility to reduce the cost of membership fees, for a newly joining member?

By no means am I a high value client, however I am loyal with QF, averaging around 1-2 international trips on QF tickets annually, and a dozen or so return domestic trips in the same period, mainly in Y. My customer record will probably show the outrageous botching of my complimentary invitation this membership year (I had to ring Qantas 5 times before the passes appeared, and it took them some six months to rectify).

Any guidance is much appreciated.

Many thanks

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Do AFF members still get some sort of discount? Not sure, but I thought I heard that. I know almost zilch about Qantas Club...

If you join AFF at the Gold level ($75) you can get $235 off the QC membership in the first year (and $90 off each year after that).

The AFF route is the best bet, if you don't get a better deal, which is offered by some professional organisations.

I wouldn't rely on any past loyalty to Qantas to cut any ice with the phone agents.

These statements don’t compute, as such I think you should get the QP discount by joining AFF as a gold member.

If you can get an ANZ Black Frequenr Flyer credit card it also comes with a QP discount. No annual fee for the first year if you apply via internet banking

Thank you for the suggestions, had not remembered ANZ Black. Indeed the AFF gold membership is a nice discount.

I'm going to assume in answer to my question, the answer is 'none'!

These statements don’t compute

They indeed compute, unfortunately due to my membership anniversary date plus low SC yield on ADL-MEL, I probably won't get to gold until 15-18 months away if I'm lucky.

I remember at least one sale QF had a year or two ago where the joining fee was waived (or at least drastically reduced).

For the past two years Qantas have had great discounts for new QC memberships in May - the joining fee was halved and further discount for buying 2 years. You can also salary sacrifice the membership (take it from pre-tax $) to save further if you do some flying for work.
