I will throw it out to the wisdom of the crowd rather than DFAT or some overrated commentator.I love Japan and would like to head up after Christmas. I've only been once before. Is it safe?7 days, what's the current best bang for for buck? I am thinking QF Y+, as they are overnight i will try to snare a J UG.Hilton, intercon, unique hotels and places that should be on my radar? Thanks guys

I am posting from Junior Suit at Tokyo Hilton (Shinjuku), the room rate here is expensive but that may just be the current occupancy load. Food etc at the hotel is ridiculous prices, but the overall service is good. Bus to Shinjuku station is handy when it's raining, otherwise it's a 10 min walk. Lots of good restaurants close by.

Is it safe? Well there are many millions of people living here permanently who think so. I am only here for 10 days. My employer is quite conservative when it comes to travel safety and we have a lot of people here right now working on this project, with many staying here for several months. Of course this is not a scientific measure of safety!

If you're worried about radiation the Japanese government have rather comprehensive testing of food. Provided you stay 80 km away from fukushima then no problems.

I ate something last night that looked like it would glow in the dark. Some sort of pickled green rubbery stuff. Maybe artichoke? Anyway, I used the theory that anything green must be healthy and when washed down with enough Asahi any radiation must be neutralized.

I hope it is!! .. heading over next week via CNS JQ* class ..... will post a TR on return .....

I recently stayed at the Capitol Tokyu which is a beautiful hotel, just near the PM's residence and on top of a subway station... Worth checking out. I was there in sept and it was quiet, the JAL flights in J were almost empty, but as always the locals and the food made it. JAL's Y+ prod is also good and much cheaper than QF

I will be going there after Xmas as well - with kids - so will be interested to see williamsf1 TR as we will be doing the same a few weeks later...

We have already had 2 trips to Japan since the tsunami. And I can testify Mrsdrron doesn't glow in the dark.:)
In June it was great-everyone thanked us for coming.Got great rates at the hotels booking immediately after the tsunami. They are going up now and for next years trips are back to normal levels.

Thnxs everyone, booked on QF 21 on the 27th.

Might try out my new HH Diamond membership. hotels are certainly good European prices.

Tokyo Hilton looks convenient and they have one in Osaka as well.

I think the rail pass is mandatory, I love the trains there, so efficient and clean.

Yes, it is safer than usual over here at the moment because now you can see the ninjas in the dark.
