I'm in Launie at the moment in the aftermath of the cancellation of QF2284. After waiting at the gate for a considerable time we were told that the aircraft was grounded and the flight cancelled. I rang QF straight away got on the 6pm flight (though still waiting for boarding pass). We were told to collect our luggage at await further announcements.
The interesting part is the armed security guard who has been shadowing the QF2284 refugees. Not a good look given everyone is taking it very well.

I too am curious about the armed security guard! It wasn't just a member of the AUP? LST seems to have an abundance of them!

LST is a smaller airport you might also just be seeing them more as a ratio of guards/police to pax naturally....

QFLink staff on the ground there are fantastic (most are contractors I think but a lot are previous QF employees) - some have been there for over 10 years and recognise me even today and I only fly there 4-6 times a year!

True! It does help you can see at least half of the terminal from almost any other point in the terminal!

Agreed on the staff, wife left her phone on the aircraft when we arrived in Melbourne, phone ended up back in LST and they looked after getting the phone back to us without a fuss!

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

No complaints about the QFLink staff - they were great. Although the rebooking was done in alphabetical order and I'm almost at the end of the alphabet, a factor which may have annoyed other plats. The first group to be rebooked were those with international connections, then domestic connections and lastly those just going to Melbourne. The Lounge got pretty crowded with a number of JQ flights and the later QFLink flight. Being a Friday night they were battling to get everyone on flights. I eventually was taken off the later QFLink flight that the telephone agent had put me on, as it was running about 180mins late and I was put on the last JQ flight which was also running late by about 30mins (the pilot blamed it on Melbourne weather, but VA were running like clockwork in and out of LST, so I doubt that excuse). The final irony was that the flight I was on, JQ738, left before the earlier JQ flight, JQ744, which had all the connecting passengers who I think would have missed their flights, well and truly. (Does anyone else find those flight numbers a little plane geeky?)

The armed guard disappeared after about an hour. I still haven't worked out why the armed guard was there, whether coincidence or planned.
