I was on holidays with the family in Bali last couple of weeks.

While on the beach in Nusa Dua, I couldn’t help but notice the number of female influencers being filmed by their male partners around us.

There was a lady walking down the beach in slow motion holding up a scarf in the wind being filmed by her male partner. There was a lady in the ocean being filmed by her partner. There was a lady doing yoga also being filmed by her partner.

There were at least five.

Very different to my experience only a few years ago on different beaches. Is this more usual now?

No judgement just an observation.

IMHO influencers only make money by "inflencees" following them and clicking on their social media account.

Unfortunately, corporations are now rewarding influencers (by paying them directly or indirectly) with large number of "influencees" to flog their products / services!

Being filmed in public doesn't mean you are an influencer.

But likely content destined for some social media platform (or only fans ) Or an AFF style trip report 😁 who knows

Yeah I don't think you're just seeing influencers. This is how the current generation present themselves to their friends on social media these days...

That's what my wife said - that this was just "normal" people posting content on their social media. But to me, with the lighting and effort I assume they are doing it professionally lol. As a middle aged bloke with no social media presence it's a new world for me...

I never understood the concept of influencers. Yes they can show you destinations you have never seen before but it's with their own eye and their own opinion.

I have no desire to follow anyone and certainly no desire to follow what they think of a destination.

In China, they may be "normal" people but they are definitely trying to make a career take off on Douyin/TikTok or other platforms.

Apparently it is quite the thing to try for when the markets for traditional occupations (or traditional pathways) become too saturated or frustrating.

When I was in Xi'an about a week and a half ago, especially at night you can see a decent handful of people trying to take lovely photos in front of the clock tower, one of the city's major landmarks. Some had set up a tripod stand with their phone on it, and they were doing some sort of vlog or live action. A few of them danced. Some this is them trying to gain influence, make a living (or kickstart one), or take photos / video for matchmaking.

Yep, experienced that ourselves a few weeks ago. A bunch of young ladies apparently vBlogging with the Drum Tower in the background.
