Hi

About to do a BNE to LAX with Qantas in Business class..

Being a "larger" guy the on board PJ's will not fit me but not keen to wear Jean for the 14 hours or so..

What is ok in Business class with Qantas these days? Board in jeans than change into Comfy shorts and Tee for the flight?

Cheers
Steve

As long as its not offensive you can wear whatever is comfortable.

Wear whatever you feel comfortable in. From a personal perspective I don't want to see (in whY, J or F) unnecessary flesh (shorts ok mid riff revealing tops on middle aged men - no)

Be prepared for this thread to be closed though as this is a highly flame inducing topic.

Agree so long as not offensive.

The L/XL PJs are reasonably large.
I knew a fairly high ranking C-Suite type who always used to get changed into rugby shorts for a flight.

If I can see your testicl_s while walking down the aisle, you picked the wrong shorts to wear.

What ever is comfortable, screw fashion, comfort is the name of the game for a 14 hour flight.

There is nothing wrong with shorts and t-shirts, provided they cover everything that should be covered and doesn't have slogans which are likely to cause offense be comfortable.
Keep in mind though that it can get cold on flights, and the blankets will only do so much. Loose fitting tracky daks may be a better choice.

The only time I wear shorts on a flight in LHR-LCA and LCA-LHR.

LHR-LCA - I change into shorts about 45 mins before landing and LCA-LHR shortly after take off.

Shorts are perfectly acceptable in most cases. Just not for drron's golf shorts!

@ 6'5" and >110kg I can fit (comfortably) the XL. How large are you?

Anything that does not expose body odour or anywhere between neck and knee is fine (ie. T-shirt and shorts are fine).

I often find it cold so i'd go tracksuit pants in the situation the pyjamas didnt fit, but YMMV.

Shorts? Really? I reckon that would be very (un)comfy -- temperature variations.I think chinos are a really good thing to wear -- they breath, they're light and they're smart.

I'm struggling to comprehend this whole thread. Pre flight, I choose comfortable and smart clothes that I will wear until I get off the flight. Shorts ? T Shirts ? And in Business, really people, have a good think about this.

Smart casual off plane, and when bedding down for long haul I'm of the view that as long as its clean and you're not in danger of indecent exposure, it's (mostly) all good (my only rule, no bare feet!!). Personally, I change into yoga pants and a long sleeve black t-shirt (sometimes the top half of the VA pjs), i'm too tall for the pants of the sets that qantas and VA hand out. A colleague of mine who runs hot always swaps into Bermuda length shorts and a t-shirt (not scruffy) to sleep because he gets too hot otherwise. Another has a rather eccentric set of pjs/safari suit-type thing made by a tailor somewhere is SEA. Odd yes, but apparently comfy and no more revealing than the airline pjs.

Once I was seated next to a fit young guy who changed into compression gear - full length tights and long-sleeve top. Not entirely sure what that was about...and yes, in business class.

So I assume you don't think airlines should be giving out PJs?

No problem giving them out chrisb, it's just not for me. The poor folks in cattle class can manage without a change of clothes and seem to do OK (hell I'm one of them most of the time). I have a set of QF PJ's I wear at home when it gets really cold.

Is it a J class thing you do because you can ?

I have a few sets of QF PJs here, but I've never actually worn them on board. :) I understand why people do, and probably will in the future. Sleeping in jeans is not ideal.
