Hi was thinking of booking something like this on a CX TPE turnaround + adding an infant fare:-
TPE - HKG - SYD return. (1 adult + 1 infant)
Infant is in HKG at the moment - obviously not that keen to bring her to TPE to turnaround if I can help it. Was wondering if she misses the TPE - HKG leg, will she be able to continue for the HKG - SYD leg?

Normal practice is for airlines to insist that we use the ticket in 'coupon' order: any missed sector can mean a cancelled ticket.

I assume that it you would pay a higher fare for the infant if she travelled on a return economy ticket at infant fare between HKG and SYD then a single fare from HKG to TPE.

I also believe that a missed first sector would or could result in cancelled ticket.

Another issue to consider is how would the child get through immigration? Or would you go land side to collect her and then back through immigration?

Remember an infant doesn't have a seat booked so it's different to an adult or child pax having a confirmed seat & not travelling on some of the flights.

It may be easier to only checkin for the HKG/TPE sector in HKG rather than have to explain that the infant isn't travelling with you on the the return sector TPE/HKG - it'll make things too complicated otherwise. As TPE/HKG will be on a separate ticket it's not like CX in HKG will ask whether you want to be checked in on the return.

When you checkin at TPE I would keep it simple and just ask for them to check you in as far as HKG & by the way the infant is not travelling with you on that first sector. The infant is not considered a noshow as they are removed from being booked on that sector entirely. For CX to delete the infant (from that sector only) from the Altea checkin record you can't be checked in.

On arrival in HKG I would clear customs and go landside so you're checking in with the infant for the HKG/SYD flight together as I'm assuming you'd have checked baggage for that sector anyway.

If CX has an issue with the infant not having used the first coupon of the eticket I would just deal with it then as I think it's going to be more complicated to get an infant ticket issued for the HKG/SYD/HKG portion of a TPE/xHKG/SYD/xHKG/TPE pnr.

How long do you have in HKG between the TPE/HKG & HKG/SYD flights for the above to happen without too much stress?
