Hi

Heading off to India in a few months (for the first time) and noticed that there are quite a few airlines operating there now, both budget and 'full service'. Does anyone of any airlines to avoid, or can recommend. Not just service etc, but safety-wise. as well.

I see that the EU havent banned any Indian airlines yet, so maybe that is a good sign??!?

We used Jet & Kingfisher with no issues in 2007

Have never travelled Kingfisher, they are supposed to be good.

Have travelled on Jet a few times (over the last three years) and they were always good, even on Jetlite. I flew Indian Airlines in 2007 and they were OK, but would prefer Jet. For better or for worse the other pax felt more "western" on Jet than on Indian Airlines (ie there wasn't a stampede to the front of the aircraft as soon as we hit the tarmac. I exaggerate a little, but on both my Indian Airlines flights pax were up and racing to the front of the plane well before reaching gate/standoff position.

My son left for India today and he is flying Jet Airways to Delhi and Chennai via Singapore. The flights to/from Singapore are operated by Qantas and the return fare was less than $1300.

My mum and stepdad were in India a few months ago and flew Kingfisher CCU-DEL and were impressed with the airline.

I kind of flew Air India once but luckily (I knew it) was operated by Singapore Airlines :D

Have flown Kingfisher last year and they are really like 5 star airline. CC is pretty good and helpful. I would suggest kingfisher

FWIW, Jet accrues some QFF points on some fares
Kingfisher accrues Emirates Skywards miles on all fares.
Both good.

Air India and Indian airlines are also both fine - even Air India express with their new 737s. However, the issue with these 2 carriers is an extremely poor on-time performance.

Welcome to India.

It's not Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.

Far from it, in fact.
