Does the welcoming of new members increase your number of posts?

Without knowing how many new members sign up each year (maybe thousands?), if I was to welcome every new member then would that increase my post count accordingly?

I have no intention of doing this, just curious to know if all those "Welcome to AAF" response posts that I see are adding to total posts. I am not suggesting that would be a reason for anyone to give a "Welcome", but just wondering if all those welcomes count.

As far as I'm aware the only posts which don't increase your post count are those in the Playground.
So yes, if you want to increase your post count then welcoming new members will be a very effective method.
(I suppose it's also pretty nice for the new members to be welcomed by those people who reply to all the introductions)

I am all for welcoming new members but it seems more effective if it is done in a manner to encourage the new member to post some more about themselves. It certainly seems some welcomes are done as a "cut & paste" & give the impression of post padding. Maybe there needs to be a 2 day limit from when the newbie posts:D

Fair point and yes at times it can seem that way.

Of course none of us are contributing anything to our post count right now, we better get cracking :D

Is there any upside at all to deliberately increasing your post count?

I may be a bit slow on the uptake but I kinda thought the welcoming of new members and encouraging them to post away about their experiences was just a pleasant neighbourly thing to do.

When you hit 1000 you get a message from JohnK congratulating you. Not sure what happens at even higher counts :)

The only upside that I can see is reaching a level eg Established Member etc.
Of course it's nice to welcome new members. Increasing one's post count may just be an unintended consequence. Since I'm not a regular poster on the Introductions threads I couldn't say on a personal level.

BTW Cruiser Elite I love your signature :D

Oh ok - again I am a bit slow PF - you are 'Senior' - I am 'Established' - are there benefits / advantages that you 'oldies' receive that us 'pups' don't? :D

It's quality not quantity. For example I would rather fly one flight in First Class than two dozen of them in Economy :)

They're kinda like Status Credits. People want lots of them, but you can't do much with them.

Now if you'll excuse me I'm off an a welcoming new members run so I can reach "established member" before the system is made fairer and simpler.

All depends on where you go. I prefer to fly SQ Y SYD-SIN or CX Y SYD-HKG any day, than say UA F LAX-SFO ....

Interesting statement coming from the person who says they prefer to fly Scoot to Singapore.

I've been posting here (admittedly rather sporadically) for 11 years and I'm not 'senior' yet!
