IHG One Rewards Discussion

They are so inept that I have pretty much dropped them.

I just spent 15 min on 2 phone calls both of which dropped out (or got hung up) where the person at the other end had no idea about anything.

Since joining late last year I've had the opposite, first stay was as a Gold after buying Ambassador for other purposes and I received an upgrade, despite that more likely going towards Platinum members. I then earned thousands of bonus points, achieved Platinum and have received more upgrades on stays this year, and even more bonus points. Even managed to use some points for cheap stays.

I have had to call them twice and both times have been dealt with well, picked up faster than with Qantas as a Gold and had my queries sorted.

I'm quite impressed, though can certainly see their program has been languishing for some time and perhaps they're only just starting to pull things together again.

Unfortunately I'm no where near Spire or RA, so I'll have to stick at Platinum Ambassador for the future.

I'll still use IHG where/when appropriate but their treatment of customers is all too often appalling. In Melbourne I am running out of properties. HI on Flinders I have not been back to since I had a run in with a manager about 5 years ago.
HI at the airport I'll go back to but prefer elsewhere due value for money and service issues and the IC is over the top expensive for what you get.

I'd probably agree with you on the IC considering the prices I see whenever I look. However, I haven't tried the VIC properties yet.

I guess value for money and service is subjective. Some properties work well, others do not, and I guess that's where being able to pick and choose loyalty comes into its own. Having stayed as a Diamond at Hilton Perth I didn't get particularly good service, in fact probably reckon I've done better with the HI and CP in Perth as a Gold and Platinum respectively, neither top-level in IHG. I haven't stayed at the Surfers Paradise Hilton but know a few people who consistently receive subpar experiences there, but then I haven't tried the CP or IC as I live here... but know I can get them quite cheaply if I want.

Perhaps I'm lucky I wasn't a member of IHG in the past when their service was slipping and their program going nowhere. I believe it seems to have some direction now, hence why I chose it.

I've just learned that P+P rates differ, so may I ask if anyone knows of any properties with better value than US$60/10000?

Where? Holiday Inn Chiang Mai is 10,000 points/night or 5,000 points + USD40. ;)

But if you're referring to points + pay at hotels where the 10,000 points option usually requires USD70 or USD65 then I have not seen one lower.

Where doesn't matter (manufacturing only). There are plenty of options I've seen that will net 10000 for US$60 or 5000 for US$30, but given I was unaware that the price per point varies (and it does, as I've found out), I just thought I'd ask if anyone knew of a hotel which gives better than US$60 per 10000 (or better than US$30 for 5000).

Got a survey today asking about using points for things like sporting events, concerts, museums, theme parks etc. 500 points.

On this last trip we tried several different brands of hotels as I am getting disillusioned with Bonvoy.Tried several IHG properties for 10 nights-2ICs,2 HIEs and 2 CPs.
Only once not upgraded and that was the IC Montreal.but got $100USD compensation for not being upgraded-was on a weekend rate with certificate.
Fantastic stay at IC Double Bay on a Virtuoso rate for a basic room.Upgraded to a courtyard suite with Virtuoso benefits of $US100 food and drink credit + breakfast.Rate was less than SOTP was selling for.

Had a recent stay at the Intercontinental Wellington. Nice enough hotel, but they just kept confusing things with what room category was what. At check in the offer an upgrade for $50 a night to a Club Room. I asked - is that the next category up from the room I’ve booked, to which they replied, yes. So then I said that should be complimentary upgrade, shouldn’t it as a Platinum? Oh no sir, not complimentary at this property, we don’t do that. Couldn’t explain why, so gets the manager and he says it isn’t an upgrade, but then he couldn’t explain why I was being asked to pay more for a downgrade.

We then get to our room, which is a nice size (was the category we had booked), but right outside the elevators and you hear everything. So we make the call for a room change and they’ve got none free. Then after some shuffling they say they can move us, but to a much smaller room. But apparently that smaller room is the same category because it has a better view.

So left totally confused about what categories were what, and what we were being told had no correlation to the website room descriptions. So sounded all like a bit of BS to me. Just wish they would tell the truth.

I recently stayed at the IC in Wellington and I have no status at all but they upgraded me to spa suite. There were no tissues in the room, there was a packet of half eaten Pringles in one of the drawers and I was very unimpressed at breakfast. My breakfast was included and the server told me to help myself to the buffet. Only later I realised there was a menu that you could order from as well that they had failed to give me. I sent an email to them but it was just one of those anodyne responses. MEH

My Gold status has now been extended to January 2022.

Here's hoping I get visit a hotel sometime next year.

has anyone tried to book Mr and Mrs Smith hotels via IHG website? No availability in Australia. Can you even book them and get perks with IHG status?

Has anyone tried to get their Ambassador Complimentary Weekend night extended. Mine is due to expire on the 1st October and I can use the IC in Adelaide but the Indigo and CP in Adelaide are both unavailable for the ACWN. I've stayed at the IC before and not sure I want to stay there again and I don't fancy booking any interstate trips at the moment.

Also - it says my Ambassador expires 1/10/21 but it says my rewards status has been extended to January 2022. Are these completely different?

Your Ambassador free night is only for IC properties, and I have asked but not had luck extending the use by date. Your IHG membership rewards are completely separate to your Ambassador membership and it is common that the two expiry dates differ
