Sorry not a review but a question. If booking via a third party e.g. amex travel, can one still insert the IHG number and receive benefits, or no? I presume latter but thought I would check!

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Just to add, here - if it's AmEx Business Travel that you're referring to, or another authorised travel agent, then you would be able to have your IHG Rewards detail added and benefits given, but with most purely online agents (they refer to Expedia.com & booking.com as examples), it is pretty hit and miss, and there's no way to add it when booking.

This is the specific clause, and no - there's no list of who those authorized travel agents are:

30. Exclusions. Members will not earn Points and/or enjoy Member benefits during a Stay, or earn Points retroactively, on any reservations booked through Online Travel Agencies (OTAs) or through unauthorized travel agents on online vertical travel portals. This restriction includes but is not limited to: earning Points on food and beverage purchases, parking, in room dining, movies, and any other incidental charges incurred during the Member’s Stay.

Cheers,
Matt.

Certainly when I use Virtuoso travel I put in my IHG number and I do get the benefits. Often a double upgrade as the Virtuoso benefit is a confirmed upgrade then my status gets an extra upgrade on top of that. that's how the IC double Bay explains how sometimes i end up with a suite.
plus double dip on F&B benefits. $US100 from virtuoso and $25 from IHG.

Works also with Marriott. With Accor you do have to remind them that the number should be there.
In August I am going to see whether it works for I Prefer as well.

I've been meaning to look into this before, but always end up booking direct. Do you work with an actual agent for Virtuoso, whether in person or over the phone/e-mail, or can you self serve with an online booking tool of some kind?

You can book some hotels on the website but there are quite a few that have to be booked by an agent.
We do have a Virtuoso agent and we do all our bookings via email through her.
A good person to be onside with as the service when needed is excellent. Plus all our cruises are Virtuoso and you get extra on board credit,a party on board plus what is usually an excellent special excursion.

You can see which hotels you can book on line here -
