Not sure is anyone else has posed this one?

I like Hawaii as a destination but QFI have a substandard product on this route.

Either they discontinue the route or it will become A332. Unlikely we will see A333 on this route. Qantas will have enough A332 back from Jetstar to operate this route.

Deep down in the statements on Thursday was a reference to QF3/QF4 going to 330 operations.

Presumably they'd try put their new A330 product (from end of year) on that route to showcase it too, and hopefully stay on top of updating aircraft.

Though how many 787's are JQ getting this year, 2/3? That'd mean at most 6 A330's come back to Qantas, and they could do with a fair few more than that to get back on the ball.

Either way, yes to original question, with substandard product if it happens sooner rather than later.

I agree. Sooner the 767s get replaced on this route by an A330 the better. Mind you it will probable be a Jetstar 787 at some point so Starclass might be a real goer too,

Jetstar will receive another 5 787 this year and another 2 next year. All A322 are due back to QF by early 2015.

Qantas only need another 3 A332 to move to all A330 on BNE-PER-BNE flights so there will be some spare A332 capacity.

I'm under the impression that the A332's are only getting refurbs in J but only a refresh in Y?

In contrast the A333's are getting a refurb in both J and Y.

Actually, it was a tongue in cheek comment that QF might downsize the route to a QF 738 ;)

If the 767 fleet goes altogether does that mean QFI will fly A330's to Honolu...

I've been prattling on about this topic for so long that by the time A330's come into service for HNL they will be almost as old as the 763's were when I started discussing this matter on the forum years ago. I think it will be A332's but on the odd occasion QF has used an Airbus on this route it has always been an A333. Perhaps its just what was available.

Btw. I think they should scrap the JQ service and infrastructure and just run a daily 744ER. That would be great and cough on HA.

My guess is QF will eventually ditch HNL and JQ will takeover the route with a new 787.

Given the statements in the 7:30report on Thursday, HNL/SYD route generates cash/profit for QF - why would they ditch it?

That rumour has been going around forever too. Still hasn't happened!

Maybe QF will use one of those new 787's for the SYD-HNL or MEL-HNL route

Really well I'll be, thinking 767 are gas guzzlers, but then QF are not cheap most times on same route to HW and JQ even less.

Would that (necesarily) be terrible? I guess given that SYD-HNL is a long-haul international flight the general expectation is a widebody aircraft?

I think they might just struggle a bit with the 5000+ miles!
