Hi forumites and AFF specialists,

Well I have just "won" a trip to Boston from Perth to see a Major League Baseball Game. The prize lets me organise my own flights from Perth to Boston then to Brisbane as long as its with Qantas and cheapest fare price (meaning discount economy). I need 200SC to get Gold.

So far I think my best option is Per - Syd - Dallas - Boston then a week later Boston - LA - Syd - Brisbane. I'm not fussed as to time in the air just looking for most SC points possible with the above route. Anyone got any tips as I'm a newbie to this.

Cheers

Doobynuts my two sons will be green with envy as they are MLB nuts.
I hope the status credit gurus can get you a great plan.

Well for a start the PER-SYD trip can be via either ADL or MEL. :D

Enjoy the baseball I saw a game in Philadelphia earlier this year and loved it.

I was thinking PER-MEL-SYD-LAX-DFW-BOS to get there but I don't need to chase status credits. SJU features in many posts as your pathway to success if you are up to it.

Fenway Park in Boston is a wonderful historical sports stadium. I saw a Red Sox game there last year. Have a great time.

Although going East is shorter, going west isn't that much further. You could go PER-SIN-LHR-BOS the last leg would be on BA, not sure if that is allowed under your rules.

Not sure just going qantas fare sale only brings up going East from Perth to get to Boston. Yeah looking forward to it - tickets to the Red Sox and Yankees game with a pass to go onto the ground pre-game - insane. LAst game I went to was ten years ago Oakland v Seattle nowhere near as exciting.

Doobynuts my son just did a month of baseball starting fom Canada and finishing in Los Angeles. He loves baseball so enjoy .I am sure you will enjoy the blast. Ten years is a long break!
My son got back 2 weeks ago to Perth.

The option you suggest will give you 170 SCs, leaving you 30 short.

I assume that the condition to use Qantas means that you can only use code share flights with a QF flight number. This limits the options a bit, because code share flights from Boston only go to DFW, LAX and JFK. The best options for status credits seem to be via New York (JFK). One option is Perth - Melbourne - Brisbane - Los Angeles - New York - Boston for 115 SCs, and return Boston - New York - Los Angeles - Melbourne - Brisbane for 95 SCs.

Be careful to avoid booking QF107 Sydney - Los Angeles - New York for the full journey, or the return QF108. This gives only 60 SCs, compared with 70 if you change flight numbers in Los Angeles.

Red Sox vs Yankees at Fenway, the ultimate rivalry and a MLB fan's dream. Have a great trip, and I hope there are a few home runs over the green monster.

Thanks Shane just booked it - didnt think of New York dammit. Perth - Mel - Syd - Dallas - Bos then Bos - LA - Syd - Bris. Then I have another Bris - Per flight later in the month so should make it.

Cheers
