Hi everyone

I have just over 600,000 QANTAS points and want to visit Europe during mid-2017. There would be 2 adults and 2 kids flying.

I'm a QANTAS Club member so accessing lounges on the way over and back is preferred. I'm happy to buy tickets and upgrade or just use points in Economy etc or any other mix.

Any suggestions on what the best way you think would be to use the points would be very much appreciated!

Thanks very much.

2 business class rewards for you and your partner return to Europe, 256,000 per person. Then pay for the kids to be in economy.
Last bit obviously depends on ages of the kids and if they are able to look after themselves.

It's a shame you can't be more creative as 280k is a Oneworld 'rtw' fare, which is one of the best uses of points.

You could try for 4 x Economy tickets, but it's a very poor use of points typically (high taxes, low value on the burned points).

2 x Business (on points) and 2 x Economy (paid for) would be your best bet. Depending on the age of your kids, that may be a deal breaker but you could possibly do 1 x Adult 1 x Child in business one way, the other two back in Economy, then for the return alternate the two so the ones in Economy on the way over, are now in Business and vice versa.

Or save your points for a 'parents trip' and just pay for all four in economy (which is what i'd probably lean towards, to extract maximum points value). If you hold no QFF status, your chances of an upgrade to Premium Economy of Business using points is pretty slim (and you need to purchase a more expensive fare to even entertain the chance as QF doesn't typically allow upgrade requests from low fare buckets).

Hi everyone

.

How old are the kids as this will influence the options?

* If the kids are young (ie in that you would not want them in Y by themselves) one option may be to buy a cheap ticket to say Hong Kong in Y, and to redeem in J on Cathay Pacific rreturn to Europe. This may mean splitting your party in to two groups of 1 adulat and one kid.

Note that QC is a lot more limited when you are overseas in that not all lounges will admit your AND kids.

600k is enough for the whole family to fly rtw. Worth considering if it is possible to take extra leaves, etc.

It's enough, but trying to find 4 x award seats on flights that suited may be a major undertaking (and the fuel fines/fees may make it prohibitively expensive). Economy award redemptions are seldom a good use of points (there are notable exceptions, but they don't apply here).

If you could round up another 80k points (credit card sign up) you would have enough points for Everyone in J with Cathay from hong kong return. Then pay for AU to hong kong.

Cathay is generous enough to offer 4 J seats, but over the Northern hemisphere summer may be a stretch.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.
