How to get out on JNB in July

Well i thought i would throw this out to everybody since you guys may just have a better idea than me.
I finish a xONEx on about 5th July in JNB, how to get back to Singapore....

- SQ award
- JNB-LHR/FRA/MAD etc and LHR/FRA/MAD to SIN, or via HKG to take advantage of the cheap whY LHR-HKG flights on QF
- Start another award (Don't really want to spend the $$ at the moment and my QF year ends 31st July and i have enough flights booked for next year to make WP again already)
- QF partner/oneworld award... not really good value given i prefer to use my miles for 2 x F awards next year.

Will fly whY or J if is cheap or award. Prefer to spend as little as possible i guess but open to ideas.

Obviously not too many ideas and I can't help with your choices.

Perhaps one day I will understand why people will fly to/from a place half way round the world to start a RTW. Even more confusing are the ones that stop the RTW in 1 or more continents and return to Australia only to go back later and resume the RTW....

3. semi-status run (wouldnt have thought necessary)?


In which case your choice is a compromise of 1 and 2. So just go for the cheapest / best value flight(s).

Yes, option 1 or 2.
If i had the $$ i would just buy another trip but don't really want to.

I have waitlisted on a business fare from SQ, but i will also take Y if i have to. I think i have enough options just thought somebody else may have seen something else great.

Krisflyer award is a good bet, since JNB-SIN is 50% off in July. 13.75k for Y Saver, 22.5k for J Saver, 27.5k for Y Standard, 45k for J Standard. Just keep on trying to search, and the Savers should be possible to be Waitlisted.

Alternatively, if you want to fly Oneworld, 30k AA for a oneway Y award JNB-HKG-SIN on CX. 50k for J. See here.

One other option - occasionally you may look at flights via Sth America (QF did have good airfares SYD-EZE recently and vv so if you can snag one of those, plus a cheapie JNB-EZE, that may be an option).

Otherwise via HKG or SIN are the next most direct. Also look at Malaysian via KL if they still operate their JNB run.
