I am desperate to keep my Platinum status but have very little paid travel organised until after the expiry of my latest card. Is there any way I can make some token trips to get the points up to 1200? I seem to have read some ideas re this in the past - any help greatly appreciated.

Hi Sookie2, the only way you can get there without too much travel would be in J. Do you have any points you prepared to use and where is your departure port?

What about taking a week and a half off and have a massive blitz across LOTFAP ex HNL. Would cost about ~$4k last I checked for the flights including positioning flights to/from HNL, and then of course a quick domestic return trip to get the ~'s

I'm points rich and time poor - happy to purchase J ex MEL. Thanks for your help.

Ok I'll bite...WHY?

Whats the reason for wanting Platinum, if you aren't flying enough to enjoy any of the benefits of being Platinum?

You'd be better off using points to book in J (of F) and upgrading to enjoy the full perks.

Because I am flying alot in the first half of the year ( points flights) and will not be purchasing status credit flights until after my Plat comes up for renewal. I'm spoilt by the perks it gives me and don't want to lose it!

I would have thought this thread covers your needs:

Specifically

Melbourne
MEL-xSYD-ASP = 120 SC for 39466 points or 329 points/SC (day return possible) (Thx - Awesom Andy)
MEL-xPER-KTA = 140 SC for 53408 points or 381 points/SC (day return possible)
MEL-xPER-BME = 140 SC for 53797 points or 384 points/SC (day return possible)
MEL-xPER-ZNE = 140 SC for 54431 points or 389 points/SC (day return possible)TSV- DRW or VV for 24000 points + circa $100

You will need to ring and book these on the phone and its likely that will only be possible for 6 weeks or so.

Are you flying alot domestically? Or internationally?

WP would be great for lots of international travel (and probably not so good domestically). Those nicer F lounges at the major OW airports eg LHR, HKG.

WP and SG to me is generally neglgible if travelling domestically.

The extra points haul can be a factor in terms of real cost of retaining WP if longer trips are in the pipeline

Almost 100% international - the lounges are one of the main attractions (that, and being treated w more "respect" and better chance of upgrades and FF availablity.

Do you think they're pulling the pin on Any Seat Awards altogether?

We have already had posts indicating this to be the case for the value offerings by the same OP that indicated the change in the first place, I see no reason not to believe it wont happen, obviously they are too much of a bargain.
