How often do Velocity DSC offers happen?

I'm hoping for a VA DSC to come along shortly, but I can't for the life of me remember when they have previously occurred. IIRC, both VA and QF have non-targeted DSC offers about twice a year, but can anyone place approximate months on these for me … please?

I note from my VA history, I seemed to be getting DSCs around August '17, so can anyone remember when the offer happened?

That one was VA. Can't remember if it was targeted - suspect it may have been a broad one for which there's a thread around here.

QF - I got my last DSC offer for bookings between 1-5 Feb, and I'm pretty sure that was also a broad one with a thread that got a lot of interest. QF DSCs are always exciting like that!

I don't recall a general VA double SC offer this year. Targeted and business bookings were the only ones?

I need quite a few more flights by early October to maintain Gold. If I see another offer I'll jump on it.

I'm thinking you may be right as if there had been, I'd have thought I would have jumped on them. The long and short of my dilemma is that if there are no DSCs in the very near future from VA, I may as well buy QF and step closer to LT status, however I would like Plat for next year, rather than gold as we'll be doing a September 2019 EU trip with SQ and other VA style associates where I'm thinking plat may be worth something better than gold.

It seems that they've been heavily targeted this year, not only toward members but also very restricted in terms of routes etc. Would hazard a guess that VL has been prioritising giving away status instead of giving away retention. They probably think the 80/20 rule doesn't apply !

Agree with John. The last semi-broad offer (you had to go through certain TAs, but at least it was open to all) was mid 2017.

They ran a targeted one early this year, and another TA invite only one a month or so back. So if you haven't got those invites, it's been over a year since the last.

At least QF have had a general one open to all earlier this year.

I did a search and nothing came up (plenty about QF, but not VA except the recent status match offer) and then I scrolled back through the threads until the beginning of the year and nothing came up either, so perhaps chat was hidden in another thread. I did know about the fairly recent TA offer but from memory, the dates were quite short and they didn't suit. The one from a year ago was also a TA offer and I did note the restrictions Flight Centre put on a J tix was considerably worse than straight though VA.

As stated by Must...Fly!, it appears VA are back to giving away status in the forlorn hope of swaying more QF pax whilst very little thrown to their current status members, which in my case is looking more like pushing me more to QF. Oh well, hopefully something will pop up within a month, or I'll be buying QF.

Many thanks. I see that I did know, but I was offered the double points. No benefit in that for me. Anyway, time is ticking. I'll see if anything comes along or whether VA themselves, contribute to me buying QF. Interesting scenario.

Last double SC was early June- booked thru a CT, before the end of June and travel before the end of July.
There was a link sent out, thru work, so my work travel qualified for it. I also registered my dad, and i booked his travel thru the VA website and he earned the double SC's as well.

Yep, that was the one that, for me anyway, the use-by dates were too restrictive. Compare that to the QF offer and they are chalk and cheese, so this year it seems VA has had a lucky-dip targeted offer (which offered some of the less travelled in my family received DSC, so I'd have to assume was targeted in a way that it didn't hurt VA much) and a very restrictive CT offer.

So:

VA seems to happen around Jan and Jun.
QF around Feb/Mar and Oct??

Double Points here too. Only really worth it for LA/HKG. Usually good time to book PE travel.

Already booked all the premium travel on the Triple Points back at Easter.

All four in my family got double points as well. Doesn't cut it for me. Points are a dime a dozen!
