Hi Everybody

All this talk about the changes to Velocity status and the new Platinum level have got me thinking, how does my YTD SC balance compare to all the other thousands of Velocity members?

More specifically I was just browsing OLCI for a flight tomorrow, saw I am allocated 8C, and wondered how I rate against my fellow passengers on this flight in terms of status and how that may or may not impact on my seat allocation.

I know that fare type is also important in seat allocation and FWIW I'm on a flexible ticket.

I'm betting that this forum is a fair representation of the overall top tier Velocity population.

My question to you my fellow AFF'ers is (for those who don't mind sharing), how do we compare?

I'm Gold with 661 SC's in 10 months after tomorrow's flight.

Thanks!

43, I fly qantas 91% of the time, I'm not a fan of virgin not taking flying seriously

569 of the 'new credits' since last review, 959 in the last 12 months, with 2 short sectors (MEL-CBR, CBR-SYD) to add.
Review date is 30/9.

I tipping that Platinum (if that's what its gonna be called and I'm not convinced, too much like QF) will be 1250 gain, 100 retain.... it'll be touch and go this year, but next year for sure as I'm going MEL-LHR-BOM-MEL over Christmas and the New Year in Y+ with VA/EY...

On the 12 month rolling i have 530. In this membership year i have 293 (til end Oct) but i've been out of the country for 4 months in the first half of the year so that should shoot up in the next few months.

Hmm, i suspect SC's isn't the key factor. Did you get on to OLCI early though? That seems to be the key to getting the best seats. OLCI opens 24 hour before departure (a little earlier in some cases) this is usually the best way to snag the best seat.

Good point and probably an obvious one I hadn't considered. I suppose I came at the question from more of a "the first X rows must be pre allocated as they always show occupied to me".

Thanks for the tip!

Peakhour - what level Velocity are you? For Golds, the first rows (including 3) are open from T-24, but for Silver or red - they appear as blocked.

I flew the A330 a couple of weeks back, row 7 onwards (first of Y) were open, but for a Velocity Red acquaintance of mine, only rows 14 onwards appeared as available...

???

Hi Misha

I'm Velocity Gold (though only for the last few months)... I'v been allocated row three and four a couple of times, but never seen vacant seats to choose in the front few. Maybe I'm just too late at checking in as suggested above???

Certainly not complaining with row 8 though :D Much better than sitting in row 20 and having to wait for both the people in front and behind to disembark before you.

0!

But my status is not due for review until Summer 2012.

I have the same issue..... Nov 2012 requalify.... so what do I do about my Oct 2011 trip to CDG?

The SC won't count, so do I do this trip on Emirates? Gain status with them too?

...that's why we need to know when Platinum kicks in so that we can work to that - but not at the expense of hundreds of SCs...

Well "Scott Gore" (Do you post here btw???) was a Velocity millionare - Velocity

> 1000000 lifetime SCs. But his would have dropped to about 10000 LT after the change. Wonder what his current year total is!

Mine is a lot more modest. Currently less than 50. Velocity resolved the issue which made me 7x Gold (They can still send the card if they want ;) )

62 from 0 pre SC so I will hit silver next month

Sent from my HTC Legend using AustFreqFly App

861 Status Credits in the last 12 months. 460 more to come in the next 3 months, :) roll on that damn Platinum :D

I got comped Gold in November (Thanks Velocity Rewards) and have been putting my money where my mouth is so far this year...

SC Balance: 216
Review Date: 30/11/2011
Earnt since last review: 203 (you can see I ramped up my VA flying since November!)

In the system to come this year are bookings worth 120 SC, leaving me 77 SC to book between now and November which should be pretty easy, four one way flexis CBR-SYD at $716 total spend will get me across the line.

QF Status Balance: 0
Review Date 01/01/2012
Earnt since last review: 0 :)

Would love to know what Platinum will be for sure. I'm a long way off whatever it will be, but then again, funny how if we have something new to aim for, we might just be tempted to go for it!

In my case, if the qual. is 1000 I'd be up for the challenge, 1200 or more and it becomes a tall ask unless you are flying a lot o/s. 800 would be fantastic, even if that was the requal figure.

Back OT, I was expecting to see people trot out the "I have 1500 SC's in 6 months" etc, mind you I'm sure someone will!

currently have 2100 status credits under new system.. with a review date of 1st of december 2011. (i don't currently fly oversea's with VA) I use AirNZ and SQ for that.
Its quite easy to rack up the SC's domestically if you fly alot with them i.e every week.

I am very keen to see this platinum offering i'm a private member in SQ/AirNZ (gold Elite+ and PPS - Solitare).. Will be interesting to see what VA has to offer here.. I am not quite sure what they could really bring to the party over and above what they offer gold right now? But time will tell.

Sorry: Edit my flight monday got applied.. now 2100 not 2063
