New to frequent flyer programs, the whole point system in general. 2 months ago, prior to joining any sort of frequent flyer program I flew from Sydney to Abu dhabi, Abu dhabi to London, London to Greece, greece to Frankfurt, Frankfurt to Las Vegas, Las Vegas to Los Angeles, Los Angeles to Fiji, Fiji to Sydney. I know there are heaps of variables including airlines, class of travel but was wondering if anyone could possibly estimate how many status credits I would have earned had I flown with one airline and it's affiliates. All of the flights were on full economy fares besides Frankfurt to Vegas which was premium economy.

Not sure how you would go calculating it as it does depend on which airlines, many of which class full economy as Y class only, which is usually dearer than business!

Either way I'm guessing I missed a chance to accumulate a few? Enough to get me to silver or gold?

What were the flights and airlines, some allow credit for past flights within a time frame, for instance with Virgins Velocity

  • Airline Partner claims must be requested within 6 months of travel provided you were a member at the time of travel
  • Members can submit a retrospective Points claim for travel completed up to 30 days prior to joining Velocity Frequent Flyer on Virgin Australia and our Airline Partners

Very very unlikely they were full economy. Full economy can be more expensive than discount business. Most economy sold is in fact discount economy.

Are you interested in how many miles/points you would have got ? [not SC]

More than likely silver (if you where a QFF, and flew only OW airlines), perhaps even Gold, but there are a few conditions with that.

First it would depend on the FF program you chose, certain FF programs are more generous than others, and some airlines are more generous than others in awarding SC's to members of other airlines FF programs, even if they are all in the same alliance.
Some of the cheaper ticket classes do not award points or SC's full stop.
Certain types of flights do not award points or SC's full stop.
Certain destinations on certain airlines do not award points to other airlines programs
Some airlines will award points to other airlines FF programs, despite them been part of different alliances.
Don't assume because the economy ticket seemed "expensive economy" that it didn't still book you into a discount fare bucket. As others have said, unless you are specifically in Y class, most airlines treat all other classes as discount, despite the fact that I have see a case where "discount economy" bucket was more expensive than full Y.

PE often doesn't award any more SC's than standard economy.

So without knowing exactly which program you where looking at joining, and which airlines and which exact fare bucket the flights came out of, it's impossible to say how many SC's could have been earnt. Of course if it was a number large enough to start moving up the ranks of the FF program, would you want to know?

Obviously if you feel you do enough flying to start moving up the ranks, the question should be, which FF program will suit me, rather than "what if".

Actually looking at it, the only ones that were part of either qantas or virgin were etihad to Abu dhabi, from Abu dhabi to London. Delta from Vegas to Los Angeles and air pacific from Los Angeles to Fiji and from Fiji to Sydney. Markis10 I looked at that, but I wasn't a member of either program at the time and the flights were now 2 months ago so probably not worth chasing up. But wow, I wish I had of gotten into the whole ff thing a while ago. Never too late I guess. Mwenenzie I was interested in both I guess. Higher level of membership = better benefits from what I've been reading.

No point worrying about what could have been - I'm sure many AFF'ers including myself have done the same thing!

FWIW pick one programme & stick to it.

Haha this is true. Yeah I've decided to stick with the velocity program for a few reasons but definitely agree after what I've read, that sticking to one is what you need to maximize points.

Sometimes worrying about what could have been can assist with future decision making process.

It happened to me in the year prior to joining QFF, looked at the flights over the previous year and realised what could have been...

IMO worrying about things you can't change - does no one any good.
Yes and no. Thinking about past decisions can make the future better.

And by the way this should not be seen as a negative thing but positive.
