We have a couple of flights booked within Europe with Lufthansa and Swiss.
The cabin bag dimensions are 55x40x20cm. This is the same regardless of class booked.

I have 2 cabin bags but both are wider than 20cm. As the overall dimensions of one of my bags is pretty small, but it is 25cm wide, I phoned and asked if it would be OK. The answer was no.

Because of a couple of 1 hour flights in Europe I'll have to leave my wheeled cabin bag at home. With a long transit in Singapore on the way over, this is a pain.

I understand airlines setting limits on cabin luggage size, but limits for each individual side, 20cm seems very narrow? Surely you should be able to buy a standard size cabin bag and know it will suit all airlines.

...end of rant

That's your standard 115cm limit.

55 long x 40 wide x 20 high.

If your bag is 20 cm wide, how high is it?

I have 2 they are:

48x34x23 or 40x30x25 from what I was told neither will be OK.

Sorry I said wide...actually I think it should have been deep.

Both of those bags are 105cm or less so I'd say they will be fine. The key metric is the sum of the 3 dimensions, if this is less than 105cm then I reckon it should be ok. But then my experience on international is limited.

Note that the total of what you quoted is 115cm. But then you are dealing with the germans and we know what they're like for rules.
