Usually these are ticketed promptly but as we've just redeemed points for a flight involving Qatar airlines (and Qantas) and the other threads involving involuntary cancellation, when would a follow up call be prudent?

No experience here, but I'd call just to be safe...

So long as you can see the booking in your FF account and it is showing as confirmed I wouldn't worry too much.

Qantas employs a process called Flight Firming to ensure that all itineraries are either ticketed or cancelled within the correct ticketing time limits (TTL).

What if a booking has a QF international flight that is part of an international through fare on another carrier?

The conditions of the international through fare Ticketing Time Limit that would be applied to a comparable QF fare to the same final destination will apply.

Example journey:

SYD-QF-SIN / SIN-AY-HEL-AY-SIN / SIN-QF-SYD

In this example case, the Ticket Time Limit of the comparable QF fare to UK/Europe (as determined by the booking class of the QF international sector) will apply and not the Ticketing Time Limit of the international carrier.

I have a booking made some months ago for an upcoming trip to HKG. It was generated out of a voucher I had been given, but payment is yet to be processed and no ETKT has been issued at this stage. I am still able to manage the booking and confirm upgrade requests as per normal. I assume it will ticket in the next two or so weeks, as the trip commences towards the end of October.

That's interesting as I have an award flight from HKG in November and have had the eTicket for months. I think Pushka is a little concerned as there has been a thread where an AFFer had a booked award flight with all points and cash paid where a leg was cancelled by Qatar because QF missed the ticketing deadline. I have had problems with paid fares for work not being ticketed when booked and usually have to ring to get them manually ticketed. Until I have the eTicket in my inbox I don't trust anyone :)

if no e-ticket receipt in a couple of hours I'd call. the QR sector being the obvious and reasonable concern.
given the call wait times, maybe the pop up chat may be faster?

betchya it's gone to the Far Queue for manual processing :(

I'm not concerned tbh. The longer I can hold onto the cash the better as far as I'm concerned. Seats are selected and upgrade requests confirmed, so I don't believe I have anything to worry about. If it's still not ticketed by a week before I'll give them a call.

Agree with this.....my QR flights 'dropped off'.
Ended up getting them back, but caused a fair bit of unwanted stress in the interim.
I'd call and request it be pushed through asap...mine had been sitting in a queue for over a week as the flights were 'so far away' (9mths)

I'm in the same situation as you. Voucher booking for revenue fare. Flight next month, booked in August not yet ticketed. Appears in my bookings and I have selected seats.

If it were an award booking though any longer than a day or two post booking and I would be ringing up to have it pushed through in case I lost it.

This general concept is fine and I agree (I have a QF only booking in the Far Queue now that has been there for a few months and I'm not concerned).

The issue in this instance is the QR sector given they have a rather strong policy to cancel unticketed segments (which is what the OP was referring to).

for QF only no issue.. most partners even are more or less OK but QR is a known exception.

my view anyway.

Fine with cash fares, but with QR fares I would be worried.

I rang last week to get a CX award ticket pushed through...I'd just rather know that its all sorted.

I decided I would call. There was a query on names (which were correct) and dates of birth (which had been provided) and then on the number of points (which were in the account). So apparently it is ready now to go back to FF then onto ticketing. It should be ticketed within 24 hours. Mmm, we shall see. Given all the info was correct then I am not convinced.

Ah. MrP had one of these last month. I didnt realise he had not received the eticket but everything appeared in his account. A booking made from a voucher. When he arrived at the airport he couldnt use his card to check in and had to go to the service counter. They could see the booking but it had not been ticketed. Thankfully all was good but they said there had been a glitch in their system. I think I would call PrincessF otherwise you might have the same issue and the queue might be long.

Just had a call back. Seems the credit card had lost a few of the numbers? At least someone is checking on it though.

There have been a few snaffus recently I think.

We've got a few of these. Just gradually making calls to get them pushed along, though Im in no hurry for some of them to hit my CC.

I'm in no particular hurry either as I've had a few hefty CC bills recently. I will call up a week or so out if it's not ticketed by then.

Does this process apply only to award flights, or cash bookings as well?

I have an award PNR for two pax that was split into 2 single pax PNR same itinerary but still not ticketed yet. Rang QF yesterday they said it's going to be done manually and as flight is December no rush it will be done...

Booking Jan 2016, split Mar2016

They also said FF points not yet debited so make sure when it's ticketed you have enough points to cover it....
I said. - "sure and when will it be ticketed so I can ensure there is going to be points in balance"?. ...Round and round we went.

I changed a QR award booking last week and when my points balance -- J to F -- didn't change after several days I called. I'd read the thread about QR cancelling an unticketed award booking and didn't want to end up in that situation. I called, requested ticketing, and two hours later received confirmation with etickets. I don't know what would have happened if I'd not been proactive but I prefer knowing everything's confirmed.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

If you have an award booking, below are the general time limits that you have to get a ticket issued before the carrier cancels the seat(s). The carriers listed below are the ones that I have multiple data points on.

The below times start counting from the time that the seat is added to the PNR. Do note a carrier can cancel a seat at ANY time, even before the below typical time limits.

QF - take as long as you like
BA - take as long as you like (most of the time)
QR - 8 days, sometimes 14 days
IB - 24 hours (down to the minute) usually
MH - 2 weeks
CX/KA - at least 2 weeks for F/J/W ... 7 days for Y
AA - at least 2 weeks, often longer

Note that if your PNR contains multiple carriers, the shortest of the above limits will apply!
