How exactly are SCs calculated when flying with VA and VX? And SC for the US SkyWest?

I've tried searching threads for an answer to this query but have come up empty handed - please forgive me if this has been covered before.

To phrase this as briefly as I can, let me simply ask: How many status credits is the attached itinerary worth? (noting the 7 day layover in LAX between VA and VX flights)

And remember you can play your "Nobody Knows" joker this series and earn extra points, but face a frightful forfeit if you're mistaken.*

The thing I can't quite work out is - does BNE->LAX->JFK count as one SC generating sector of more than 8000miles and is thus worth 50SCs (or 150SC for the return in Y+)? Or does is work out BNE->LAX being 40SCs, LAX->JFK 30SCs, then JFK->LAX 90SCs and LAX->BNE 120SCs?

Lastly - do you earn SCs when you fly Delta when its operated by SkyWest airlines? (Thats SkyWest the little carrier that runs around LAX, SFO, LAS, etc, not our own Skywest here in Australia).

*reference to BBC's tv show QI in case you were wondering.

I think you're right with the latter assumption. As the VX flights are not VA codeshares, they should be earners on their own.

For your second question, if the flight is ticketed and coded by DL, it should earn points.

Note that a W fare on VX is Main Cabin Select, not First, so you may earn full economy SCs - I'm not sure if that qualifies as Y+.

Thanks Stu,

There may be an air of mystery about the exact figure until after I get back. Once the SCs are awarded, perhaps early next year, I'll dig this thread out and post the result.

Re: How exactly are SCs calculated when flying with VA and VX? And SC for the US SkyW

I'm basing my assumptions on you being Velocity Gold, and also a further (dangerous) assumption that the VX flights will credit correctly. Here goes:

Code:
[b]Sector	Miles	Fare	Base	Bonus	SCs[/b]
BNE-LAX	7170	T	3585	2689	40
LAX-JFK	2475	L	1238	0	20
JFK-LAX	2475	W	2475	0	40
LAX-BNE	7170	O	8963	6722	120

That gives me a total of 25672 Velocity points and 220 Status Credits. I'm confident of the SC calculation, but I've seen plenty of variance in how points are calculated, so you may well end up with a slightly different number of Velocity points.

Note that if you elect to upgrade your VX sectors to MCS or F, expect to not receive any points or SCs (though that particular bug may have been fixed with VX moving to Sabre).

As an aside, would an online calculator for this sort of stuff be useful? I might build one.

Re: How exactly are SCs calculated when flying with VA and VX? And SC for the US SkyW

And it looks like this:

Route SCs Points Bonus Total

BNE->LAX 40 3,585 5,378 8,963
LAX->LAS 10 118 118
LAS->LAX 10 118 118
LAX->BNE 120 8,963 5,378 14,341

The Delta return flights (which were run by SkyWest, their short hop Western partner) LAX LAS credited the next day, but still waiting on the VirginAmerica LAX->JFK return to rattle through.

I have no idea how those figures were arrived at but I'm happy with them.

Interesting .. nice to know that I got the bonus points figure wrong, but the rest of it right. :) Also, good to know the DL sectors credited quite quickly! Would you be able to tell me what flight numbers and fare classes you had? I want to make sure I have the rest of my figures worked out :)

I can confirm that Main Cabin Select earns as "Full fare economy" and not premium economy.

As for the flights operated by SkyWest, it depends on whether it's a flight that is operating under the "Delta Connection" brand. Most codeshares DO NOT count, as I found out when I went out of my way to get a Delta code-share on an AS flight.

Would be keen to know exactly what you get when Virgin America come through . I am looking at booking SYD>LAX>BOS in the next few weeks. Tks.

+1 on the sky west flights not crediting. Flew delta to lax which credited, and sky west (with delta ticket) to las and it didn't credit.
