How do you explain your frequent flying?

Moral of story: If it's too good to be true, then it probably is.

This is what my friends tell me when I try to explain how I manage to fly J/F so often :)
In the world of points and miles I learnt there is no such thing as too good to be true ;)

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

My+1's friends / work colleagues think she hooked up with a multimillionaire:mrgreen: (I wish!)

It took a boring (for them) explanation about points and credit cards to reassure my friends that I wasn't a drug mule.

I don't tell them I am travelling J. I might say I am using points or MrP travels a lot (true). Sometimes an unexpected upgrade (also true).

I have been doing it for over 20 years.

People do not worry about it much anymore. I just get asked for advice ...

Although many still find weekend trips to Asia/NthAmerica a strange thing ... but accept it's something I do ...

After what some of my family do - I wish I was asked sometimes. I've learnt a lot here - and done a lot of extra flying to boot...

I don't, either accept it, ask sensible questions and I'll help you or shut up. Life's too short to worry about what others think.

Explain? What's that?

Exactly. I tried explaining once. Never again. (I may or may not break that rule, would have to be either very drunk or a very good friend for me to have the patience to explain it and not want to rip something up from all the dumb questions.)

I'm helpful by nature (others may disagree), but in this area I find myself actively holding back my knowledge for many of the reasons implied earlier in the thread.

I've helped immediate family, but everyone else gets: "I just like flying"; "the fares were on sale", or "I've always wanted to go".

One thing that riles me is the "Next time you hear of a mistake fare like that please let me know". Umm, no.

It's a personal and lifestyle choice choosing to travel around the world :) Some people think we are fortunate (and I know we are) however I also do tell them that everyone has that choice to travel too, they just choose not to.

Exactly. I just ask how their beach house/boat/jet ski/motorcycle is going.

I don't explain it at all. Shrek thinks I'm a little crazy. Some work colleagues are intrigued. I have managed to acquire a couple of pupils as a result of them grilling me but the vast majority think I'm a little strange.
If anyone found out what I'm doing next month that would cross into the dangerously strange category I think ;)

Similarly, I respond to comments about my addiction to all things rail (except diesel) "for those who understand, no explanation is necessary. For the rest, no explanation is possible."
