Discussion.

As a HHonors Gold or Diamond member, what are your expectations of amenities offerings at hotels :?: I know what the HHonors web site says so I am asking for more specifics.

What differences should there be between how a Gold and a Diamond are treated :?:

I am referring to properties both with and without Exec lounges as this changes the picture significantly IMHO.

I would expect that exec lounge access be given to HHD regardless of room rate booked, whereas HHG should get it only if their room type is upgraded to an exec level room.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I believe that is already the case, although the HHD would need to have selected the 'upgrade' benefit to take advantage of this.

The main distinction here would be if there were no more room upgrades remaining. In which case, both a HHG and HHD would not get an Exec Level room, both would get free breakfast, but only the HHD would get access to the lounge despite having a non-Exec room.

After 1 Sep when HHGs and HHDs get free internet, there's really not much point of selecting another MyWay benefit, unless the target hotel has no Exec Level and/or the value of the benefit (Exec Lounge / breakfast) can't be realised (still, only 1,000 extra HH points?)

In saying that, HHDs should be able to get upgrades to suites if there are no more Exec Level rooms left. I doubt it'll happen, but that would be awfully good. Perhaps HHDs which pass a certain threshhold should get upgrades to suites whenever they select the 'upgrade' benefit in MyWay. This, of course, would tend to reward those HHDs who truly get the status vanilla, not fast tracks ;)

HHDs should always get some sort of welcome amenity. Perhaps a bit more than a piece of fruit and a bottle of water (but both inclusive would be a good start).

At hotels without exec lounge-50% more bonus points.End of story.

Free mini bar if no lounge, bottle of wine if there is a lounge with a plate of fruit.

I thought we might have some more responses to this one as it was a discussion point when I was talking to the Operations Manager of the Hilton Melbourne Airport.

It was the Operations Manager who actually asked the question so some more realistic answers are welcome.

I thought the answers are realistic to be frank, AFAIK Hilton is the only chain that offers upgrades at less than normal pricing to non elites in preference to elites getting a nicer room, and of course IC offer a free Mini Bar to elites. Across any chain I think the thing that is lack is consistancy, why should a reward night be different to a paid night for instance.

My expectation is to be offered (courteously) the benefits for a Gold member - nothing less is acceptable under the program terms. Ancillary (property specific) items like Note from GM, chocolates, wine/beer/nuts/mints - any are gratefully received but not expected IMO. They need to be mindful that "little things mean a lot" and return custom is earned.

Goodwill, loyalty and respect are all a two way street. Melbourne Airport Hilton haven't earned any from me and as such, I will be comparing rates/status benefits with Holiday Inn when next I look to stay at MEL Airport (certainly 8 July 2011, if not earlier).

Comparably, Adelaide and South Wharf have my custom - period. I don't shop around there. They deliver what I expect, plus...always. Any issues have been dealt with personally, promptly and always to my complete satifaction.

A question as much as an expectation....

I am about to hit HH Gold, and next year have booked a 3 night reward stay at Hilton MEL South Wharf - 2 free nights + 50000 points.

As a HH Gold, can I expect the Gold benefits for this (or any reward booking), or are they only available for bookings paid with $$s.

(Forgive if this has been asked and answered before but I couldn't locate it via search)

You should receive HH gold amenities if booked as a reward stay.
My understanding of the T&C's is that reward stays are qualifying stays (ie credited towards status) and you will receive HH bonus points for what you spend on food / drink / incidentals.

You should be treated as a HH Gold whether it is paid or rewards. Hilton South Wharf is pretty good with this so I would not worry too much.

If in doubt then ring the hotel and ask for (in house) reservations and discuss it your booking with them. The outcomes can vary dramatically depending upon how busy they are.
