Hi everyone,

After saving my points for MANY years I have finally flown enough to secure Silver status with Velocity and have been awarded 2x free lounge passes. Honestly, this was a fluke and something I'm not likely to ever see again and so don't want to waste my access.

Does anyone have any thoughts or tips of how to get the best out of my limited lounge access (flying out of Sydney) other than arriving hours-and-hours before my next flight and stuffing my face silly (if that's even possible, I have no idea).

thanks in advance and sorry if this has been touched on in other threads (I did look),
Chris

That's pretty much it. Next time you're flying, see if you can make it an 8:00pm flight out of a major port with a decent lounge (eg, SYD, MEL, BNE), then get there hours ahead and stuff yourself with food (best food between about 5 and 7) and alcohol (beer, wine, but no spirits). Only if flying Y class, of course.

It's not like you will never see inside of another lounge if you use up your two invitations; you can also sometimes find some nice people who are able (and willing) to guest you in to a lounge. All you need to do is 1) have a look at the spreadsheet and see whether there is overlap with your time in the airport, or 2) post when you're flying and see if anyone offers to guest you in.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

In theory at least (I've never seen anyone booted out for overstaying).
It's written down somewhere, in a document no one has ever read. I've purposefully with their knowledge stayed much longer than 2 hours. I don't think this will be an issue unless you make a habit of it and are known to staff.

I have stayed for 8 hours before due to golf scheduling. I got to know the staff on shift very well. Were more than happy to accomodate me. :D

I think it was last year a few days before Christmas and they had Red Balloon in the lounge doing free massages - made use of that, very nice just before our flight. During Melb Cup they also had something happening for the ladies, dont remember what exactly. Makeup?

I know there is a shoe shine chair outside the Sydney lounge door but Ive not seen the shoe shine guy - does he exist?

The shoe shine exists in peak hours for a small fee. $5 or $10. They will do any leather products you have aswell. e.g. Handbags, suitcases, etc.

Hair and make up for the ladies... I think they had some grooming services for the men.
Day Trip to SYD for Melbourne Cup

Agree with Stm1Sydney - turn up 3 hrs before & enjoy the benefits of status :)

While their a nice perk of status, IME the VA lounges in Aus are serviceable, but definitely want to avoid peak times, periods & popular flights to maximize the experience.

Tends to lack Wow Factor if flying as part of a J flight from LAX, LHR or HKG
