Hotel points via CC spend - SPG / Hilton / Hyatt

Which hotel membership program do u guys value most? and how do you earn them via CC?

AMEX MR for SPG / Hilton

SPG seems much better compared to Hilton as they require less points.

Diners club for Hyatt GP

What about Marriott ?

I rate Hyatt points the most valuable, and SPG a close second.

Any opinions?

I have been with the Hilton for 7 odd years, when they 'enhanced' their program late last year, to do away with the 20% discount and convert all Macquarie CC points to HH points that is when I started to valued them a lot lot less. With the Hilton I know what I'm getting, for the most part, no matter where I have been in the world so I stick with them (or am I stuck with them).

But to answer

I do not rate Hilton points highly at all, it is merely a by product of staying somewhere I feel comfortable. I am considering transferring the points to an airline program (although the exchange rate is so so bad)

I also am in IHG but I only use them when a Hilton is not in the city or too far from where I want to be. (so I rate them even less then Hilton)

SPG are pretty much the only points worth accruing from a CC. Hilton points don't accrual anywhere near as much as you can get from a stay, and IC points are not that useful apart from points breaks.

Many who use SPG from CC spend will then launder them onto other airlines rather than book stays. I can imagine ok value in stays as an SPG plat though, with club and breakfast and internet all bing part of the package.

I think you need to have a closer look at the options, for instance HH Status is part of earning points on a card, thats valuable in itself.

Only if you value Diamond >> Gold, since Gold is so easy to get...

The problem with SPG earning is it's 0.5P/$ via MR, otherwise it's pretty good:-|

The card gives you Gold straight up, without the need to go through whatever other process. Many folk around here would have little issue generating the $40,000 spend at little cost to themselves, thus getting them Diamond. There are people that would find this worthwhile.

I know all that, and HH gold is useful- I'm Diamond on points so I do stay there. The question being asked was about points from CC spend, and I still feel that not many people are as likely to put points into HH or IC from their cards.

You need to look more than points (as pointed out Diamond is pretty easy via CC). As for the points earned being more, given you can double tip, if your a HH fan, using the CC is a no brainer. Like I said, you need to look at it more closely, no point leaving money on the table so to speak.

I agree that Hilton costs way more points if they are redeem via MR. Hoping for any other ideas on Hyatt earn apart from Diners as Im aiming for those aspirational properties. PHV PHS PHT
