Hi folks,

I've spent the last couple of years doing either short (1 hour-ish) or international flights, so I'm out of touch with what sort of food is served on longer domestic flights - does Qantas still do a hot meal on any longer flights, or is it all sandwiches?

If so, does there seem to be a rule about length of flight? e.g. once the flight is over two hours at dinner time you get a hot meal?

thanks
Rebekka

How long are you referring to and to where?

I was wondering as a general thing, whether there's a rule about how long the flight has to be before you get hot food (if indeed they still do hot food in economy at all). I don't have any longer flights booked at this point.

i had hot food on SYD-MEL late last year at 'dinner' time so not sure if it's the sector length or the time of day that determines it. On another flight that was 'refreshment' i got some odd kind of savoury cake with chilli sauce...

I flew Sydney Melbourne last week at dinner time, they were doing sandwiches...

regardless of whether or not you get hot food on the plane it seems likely that the onboard offering will either be of poor quality or insufficient size (enhancement...)

best to fill up in the lounge beforehand

Outside of designated Breakfast,Lunch,Dinner flights.
Flights over 2 hours come to mind as having a meal service.

Yeah, I always do - if it's a flight with a meal (as opposed to refreshment) I always order a fruit platter and treat that as dessert. I'm just curious.

Yes, I'm trying to work out which designated breakfast/lunch/dinner flights have hot food, not just which flights have a meal service!

I don't remember the last time I was not offered a hot option going between PER and the east coast and v.v

You need to check the flight information to see whether it is listed as a 'Dinner' or 'Refreshment' service. I've always had a hot meal option when the flight is designated Lunch/Dinner as far as I remember.

I always seem to get a hot meal flying Perth to the east coast and back. That said, the last two flights, my preferred option was gone by the time they got to me, and the meals are always too small, so I carry some snacks of my own.

same as international, the Y meals are hilariously tiny now - luckily the CX lounges at HKG have good food :)
