We're doing SYD-HNL on JQ3 in *class on Saturday 22nd. We have all day in HNL as we fly out to DFW/RIC on Saturday night. We intend being back in the club on Saturday afternoon for a shower before we head out to DFW.
I know the Admiral's Club is above Gate 26 and I'm pretty sure it's a share club with Qantas - yes? I've also ascertained that there are 2 showers.
Is there a 1st Class section/lounge as I'm WP and we are flying AA First out of HNL?
If it's an AA/QF share club is this the one we will use on our way home on JQ4?
Any other tips from those who have been there would be appreciated please.
As always, thanks in anticipation of the wealth of knowledge that will come forth.

  • No first class - the lounge seats about 60 people.
  • yes - it's a QP in the mornings until the QF/JQ flights departs,then becomes an A/C
  • If you feel like a beer before your DFW flight it won't hurt to discreetly ask (Alcohol is put out for the QF/JQ flights but removed once they depart)

Yes the lounge is a QF lounge up until about 11am when the QF and JQ flights have departed. The QF fare of free alcohol, croissants, fruit etc, are removed around this time to be replaced by the lightweight snacks of AA. The QF staff also seem to handover to AA staff.

I got there for a lunchtime HNL-LAX flight just before 11am so managed to grab a couple of beers before the handover and then sit there until the AA flight.

There can be quite a long walk to the gate for the JQ flight back to SYD...

After the morphing to an AC, they do still offer free beer and wines ; they treat the HNL lounge as a bit of a cross between international and a domestic lounge

Anyone know if the AC/QC will store luggage.

Am arriving JQ3 (0645), and departing AA162 (1410) to LAX to connect to AA30 overnight to JFK.

So ideally will do a quick breakfast in the QC and then go into the city for a few hours - decided I would prefer to burn 7hrs in Hawaii rather than LA

Otherwise found this place - anyone used them??

Aubs,

We arrived on JQ3 at 0645 and we were able to checkin for our AA flight that was leaving for LAX (as it turned out) at 1500. Checked both bags in and because it was raining we stayed in the QP until departure. Here's the relevant section from my Trip Report.....

Honolulu Airport
Off the plane and onto the ubiquitous Honolulu airport bus and off to Immigration and Customs. Sure beats the hell out of entering the US via Los Angeles. We were the first ones into the Immigration hall and there wasn’t anyone there so we were through in minutes and waiting for our bags. Our next flight was with American to Dallas Fort Worth at 1800 so we planned to check-in and go into Honolulu for the day. After a bit of confusion, probably helped by my not listening, we found AA First Class check-in. Handed our details to the agent and there was far too much key-board tapping for my liking. Sure enough, our flight to DFW was having a change of aircraft in HNL and would be leaving 3 hours later meaning we wouldn’t make our connection to Richmond the next day. Bear in mind that we are booked on a YUP (P code 1st class with lots of restrictions) but the agent was most helpful and managed to get us onto HNL – LAX at 1555 and then LAX to DFW at 0015, into DFW at 0500. What about the curfew? What curfew?? It was raining, so we decided that we would stay in the Qantas/Admirals’ club for the day. A good decision as it didn’t stop raining all day.
Naturally to get to the QP we had to go through security and ofcourse as we had changed our booking at short notice we got the dreaded “SSSS” on the boarding pass so we had the full body pat down and bag search. No problems, and yes I did remember to put Mr Pickwick’s Best into my suitcase! Walked to the QP and it was chockers with passengers waiting for JQ4 & QF4 to Sydney. We found a table to share and decided to wait until both flights had left before we had our showers and changed. The club finally emptied out about 1030 and then it morphed into an Admiral’s Club. All the food and alcohol gets put away to be replaced by coffee and noodles. Fascinating to watch. We showered and changed, had some takeaway for lunch and whiled away the day watching the rain – and I mean rain!
