Hong Kong Airlines Delays/ Cancellations

HX16 may be a new entrant to the Australian scene (1355 hours CNS to HKG) but is not immune from late running.

On Wednesday 17 February 2016 it took off at 1511 with arrival estimated at about 2018 hours, 68 minutes behind time. Aircraft is A333 B-LNQ.

These are essentially charter flights, a concept that is well known to UK holidaymakers but a little less common (although becoming more so) to and from Oz:

One reason may be distance. It is arguably a greater business risk to commit to charter flights given the minimum 6000 kilometres each way that many of these flights may have to cover.

Due to Typhoon Haima that killed at least eight persons in northern Luzon, Philippines and which is on Friday 21 October approaching HKG, HX16 from OOL to CNS and on to HKG appears to have not yet departed. The Cairns Airport website suggests that the flight will depart at 2105 tonight instead of 1345 this afternoon but if I was booked, I would 'prepare for a further update.'

Competitors CX and QF are also cancelling flights left right and centre to and from HKG, unsurprisingly.

On Tuesday 3 January 2017, HX15, the overnight HKG - OOL should arrive at around 0935, 70 minutes late with A333 B-LNP. HX16, the 0940 hours from OOL up to CNS and on to HKG may be able to depart at about 1045.

Good Friday (14 January 2017) sees HX16, the 1345 hours CNS - HKG (A333 B-LNO) having taken off at 1435; arrival should be at about 1946 hours tonight, 31 minutes behind schedule.

Friday 21 April sees HX15, the 1950 hours Thursday 20 April 2017 HKG - OOL with a 'political' registration appropriate to Queensland of B-LNP arriving at 0748, 33 minutes late. It had taken off at 2115 so has made up some time.

On Wednesday 26 April, HX15 from HKG down to OOL (A333 B-LNM) is expected in at 0901, 36 minutes late.

Sunday 21 May 2017 sees HX16, the 0940 hours OOL - CNS (A333 B-LNN) not having taken off until 1133 hours. Arrival should be at 1401 this afternoon, 146 minutes late.

There was a typhoon around Hong Kong on Tuesday 13, so that may have caused many delays. On Wednesday 14 June, HX15 from HKG to OOL (A333 B-LNN) is likely to arrive at 0924 hours, 59 minutes late.

Wednesday 18 October sees HK15, the redeye from HKG to OOL (A333 B-LNN) arriving at 0903 hours, 38 minutes late.

On Sunday 11 August 2018, HX16 (0940 hours OOL - CNS) took off at 1030 with A333 B-LNO. Arrival should be at 1301, 46 late.

Sunday 2 September 2018 finds HX16, the 1350 CNS - HKG that took off at 1443 with A333 B-LNO likely to arrive at 1944, 39 late. This airline will soon be withdrawing from Oz, yet it has been quite punctual and is well regarded judging by comments from those who have used it.
