While Virgin have 20% off for some dates CX in Y has chimed in with MEL $570, BNE $574, SYD $603, ADL $577 and PER $603, IWTF reports April/May 2018 flights, will QF will join the war well...

just booked two family trips to HK.... prefer CX over QF because
1. schedules, QF must be kicking its b@lls since they let go of QF87/88 years ago, now they don't have a overnight out of Sydney option.
2. free CX seat selection even for the cheapest class...
3. Y seats with CX is much better, too much recline for QF Y, if pax recline in front of you your face will have 2mm clearance from their seat back.

I care about the QF status side from work travel.

+1

For such a popular destination for both work and holidays, and as a hub for further connections I need more options than morning and mid afternoon. I don't understand why QF wouldn't have an overnight flight option...

Over the years we jus got fed up with the measly award offerings by Qantas to USA and Europe and the hefty charges, so usually get to HKG any way we can and go in J from there, plentiful award seats for 2 on the likes of CX and others and direct to most cities, its a no brainer for us.
