Re: Current Hilton Premium Club offers

I know this is not related to Hilton Premium Club, but it is Hilton related and couldn't find another appropriate thread.

On Friday I flew to LGA from BOS for a weekend away with my girlfriend, we were both rushing to get to the flight, and just made it there, as is not uncommon flying out of Logan to places like New York we then pushed back and sat on the runway for about 45 mins due to typical friday afternoon traffic above New York.

We made it to LGA, eventually and were picked up by our car (I had arranged a nice Merc, for what was to be a romantic weekend away). The driver had such bad breath my girlfriend was almost sick. Not a good start thus far.

We arrived at the Waldorf Astoria, and waited a very long time to check in at the Diamond Desk, and given that we were going to the Opera were starting to get a little concerned that we would be late, given that it was raining at under these conditions it becomes very difficult to get a cab.

We got to our room, a deluxe king, to find a very run down, cold and smelly room. We rang to ask about the heating and they said that the heating doesn't get turned on until it gets cold, my response was, "mate, I'm from Australia and this is cold". So they sent up a heater. The heater arrived and as soon as we plugged it in, it tripped something and the power went out.

My girlfriend takes a great deal of pride in her appearance and the thought of getting dressed in the dark, or by the light of a mobile phone was not a pretty one.

I couldn't even ring downstairs as the phone was on the same power source, so rushed down, and eventually had it rectified.

We made it to the Opera (a pretty average performance of Carmen) by means of a crazy, but fun peddle cab ride through Manhattan traffic, in the rain. What a hoot.

The next day I returned to the Diamond Desk to complain, and was told we would be moved to a new room that day, all we had to do was pack and pick up new keys to the room on return, and our bags would be moved for us.

That evening we returned, and were given keys to 11R, I've stayed hundreds of rooms and have never stayed in a room denoted by a letter. We made our way to the 11th floor and to the end of the hallway. When you arrive at your room and you have double entry doors, you know you have someything a bit different.

Upon entry there was a huge marble floored lobby, larger than many rooms I've stayed in. On the right, a lounge room perhaps 10 metres by 12 meters, with a lounge suite, desk, and a view looking up park avenue.

On the left was a bedroom of a similar size, with a simply massive bed, and a walkin robe larger than my bathroom at home. Behind the bedroom was a dressing room, with a lounge suite, two wardrobes a dressing table. Off this was a massive bathroom covered in black and white marble.

From then on our weekend was rescued, and we had a wonderful, most memorable time.

Thank-you Hilton Honours (points used for weekend), and the Waldorf-Astoria, oh and the Red Sox won the World Series. Very memorable.

winetraveller, I moved this to a new thread, as you're right, it's not really anything to do with the Premium Club thread.

Nice upgrade but I think you both deserved it.

Great result after a poor start. I am now slightly concerned about award stay at the Waldorf next July... Amazing that such a distinguished brand should initially perform so badly :(

Was this the Waldorf pick-up service? I would have thought they'd usher you straight from the car to your room for check-in there, irrespective of status (a benefit of using hotel limousine transportation).

No, I organised this myself. Using the hotel Limo service would have cost $350, my car service was less than half.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Is that A$350 or US$350? Would you ber happy to share you limo srvice details?

I have half considered the US Helicopter service from JFK to Manhattan but that is US$400 per person - so a little outside of budget...

Given the initial report, may be best to carry a pack of Tic Tacs with you and offer some to the driver before getting into the car :p
