It seems from what I've been reading is that the Q4 Promotion is not going to be a big HHonors points earner - if anything, it might be fairly anaemic:

FlyerTalk Forums - View Single Post - The "official" Q4 Promo speculation thread

Q4 2012 HHonors System-wide Promotion
(Promo Name-1,000 reasons)

Offer Details: Registered HHonors members will earn 1,000 HHonors Bonus Points each Thursday through Monday night of any stay occurring during the promotion period November 1 through December 31, 2012. (Tuesday and Wednesday are not bonused.)

Valid Stay Dates: November 1- December 31, 2012

Live Dates: October 17- Sneak Preview e-mail
October 31- Global email launch to remaining HHonors members
November 1- Global email launch to non HHonors

Combined with multiple airline bonus promos: Miles and More, Delta, Virgin Atlantic, Virgin Australia.

Could it be that Hilton are going an airline mile heavy path this time and not for HHonors points?

Seems that way. Could it also be that forward bookings are good enough that Hilton are going to try and fall on their sword and not have a substantive promo, in the hope that other chains will follow suit next quarter, and break the cycle? It seems to me these promos are becoming so entrenched that they must end up costing the chain a fair bit, and in the end all that happens is that points get devalued each year (either by adjusting the points required for each category - or realigning categories that hotels fall into). If you read some of the diatribe on FT it almost feels like that to not having a promo for a quarter is taking away a fundamental right.

I've been searching like crazy for the 2012Q4 promo to decide where I will stay.

Looks like nothing special is going to happen this time...

I got excited when I received the email from Virgin Atlantic of the chance to earn 15,000 bonus miles.

I have 1 booking already and have been trying to see if I can book anymore on the dates I am travelling around Christmas/New Year. I have seen some of the room rates. Forget it....

I've bitten on the Virgin Atlantic offer. It will earn me over 5 stays, I calculated, 20K+ miles which is half the points requirement of a J trip SYD-HKG. Seems a good deal to me.

Edit *As Markis10 said in another thread
