Hi,

I am going to Hawaii in July for 15 nights. I would like to stay at the Hilton Hawaiian Village. Can someone give me some pointers and links to the best deal possible.

Cannot afford to spend a fortune:oops: but would like to stay at Hilton Hawaiian Village as it is family friendly.

Sure you don't want to get out of Honolulu? It's not really a 15 day sort of town...

Pre-paying on the Hilton site at the moment shows a rate of around $A4,550 / room for 15 nights. I presume this is the sort of rate you don't want to pay.

What sort of price range are you after? A travel agent or consolidator (incl. Qantas Holidays) may be able to get a much better price. There is also Priceline (but not sure if HHV is one of the hotels, and Priceline can be tricky to use).

Is this the same as the Hilton Waikaloa? As we found that hotel way over the top when we visited a few years ago!

Good points!

I can't imagine what anyone would do in Honolulu for 15 days. I would recommend heading out to another island to at least break it up.

And the rate above for the Hilton Hawaiian Village? I would like to consider myself loyal to Hilton but there is no way I would be staying there. It is not worth it. There are plenty of family friendly hotels in Honolulu. If you can't afford to spend a fortune do your family a favor and stay somewhere modest (there are plenty of affordable places in Hawaii!) and use the extra money on activities, shopping and eating (which can be costly).

Yeah, having stayed there, I found it ok (and the views good if you have a sea view), but wasn't super impressed with the place.

It's just another resort. I've been to others that are similar, better and worse. It didn't stand out either way.

BTW, here's the view from my room (this was 4 years ago btw):

.

I am going there with my wife and 2 year old. I would like to stay at the Hawaiian Village because it is supposed to be a great place for kids.

I am open to other suggestions. I have not been to Hawaii before.

I know you probably just want the best holiday for your family and if you can easily afford the price tag that goes along with the HHV then go for it. But I don't know that a 2 year old would be old enough to really appreciate it. I certainly wouldn't stay there just for your 2 year old because there are plenty of other hotels with pools and children's activities.

As for spending 15 days in Honolulu I would not recommend it. I just don't see enough to do there to warrant spending that much time. I would recommend snorkeling at Hanauma Bay which is beautiful. Hire a car and take a drive around the Island and stay at Turtle Bay Resort. This place is worth the rates.

I’d also agree that I don’t think a 2 year old needs what is on offer there. When they’re a bit older and can do more activities, that’ll be the time when you’ll need to spend! :p

Just like blueflamenco, I'm not sure a 2yo would appreciate what HHV has on offer, and also I feel it is too much time in one hotel. (But of course everyone is different).

There are a few threads here about Hawaii. Some of the things I would suggest:
Oahu:
Hire a car and drive around the island. Get a feel for what is outside Honolulu - it really is just a much bigger version of the Gold Coast, with a beach that's much poorer.
U.S.S Arizona memorial.

You could fly to the Big Island and spend a few days there. Go Volcano exploring. Perhaps go up to the peak of Mauna Kea and visit the space observatory (Note go on an organised tour... driving up there is madness).
Plenty of beautiful beaches, waterfalls and things to see on the Big Island.

Other islands also have their strong points. I'm not a Hawaii expert by any stretch of the imagination, so others will have better ideas.
