Just noticed this today....Premium members get an extra 20% off so 70% discount in total makes it pretty appealing.....I'm a new kid and unable to post links but you can go to either the Hilton Asia Pacific site or the Premium Club site and see the offer.

For those interested: Asia Pacific

Slightly OT, but would admin please consider removing the minimum post requirement before web links can be posted? Seems a bit antiquated.

odoherty,

The limit was put there to discourage the infrequent (spam) posters from posting links to inappropriate sites and in my opinion it appears to work. ;)

There is always a kind sole who will post the link.

tehuringa,

A great piece of info thanks.

Without looking I'm guessing the HPC discount will apply after the 50% gas been deducted so the total will be 60% off rather than 70%. Still a great promo though.

I realise the original intended reason, but couldn't they simply make a few bogus posts to quickly get up the required number, if they really wanted to?

Thanks folks...I actually noticed this last night and there was a mistake on the website..it said 70% off + 20% for HPC members...quickly fixed by this morning though

P.S. Bill....I reckon you may be right...still 60% will be good enough for me to book a few weekends away thats for sure.

It takes 10 posts to get there, and most usually get caught and banned through port reporting before they get to that number. I think I saw one occasion when a spammer got to 10.

I have managed to get well over 10,000 and I am still here. :p And only a few infractions along the way as well. ;)

Sole? Did you really mean soul? ;)

Anyway sounds like a good promotion but why do I get the feeling that there will be very limited availability at the discounted room rate. Would be good if one can get the discount for Ozfest in Adelaide in May as I still do not have a hotel booking. In fact I do not have airfares booked either.

There are several policies in place to prevent the forums being overrun by spam. The minimum post count requirement for including a web link in the post is just one of them. The combination of the various mechanisms do work pretty well, but there is always going to be some spam that manages to circumvent the safeguards and they are removed manually as they appear. Its not as infrequent as you might think. The automated spammers (or "bots") are generally prevented and the minimum post count for including web links is part of that prevention process. We do watch for new members post-padding to get to the minimum level.

If a genuine new member wants to include a link, then there are some simple ways to provide the information required and a moderator can edit their post to include the link if appropriate. Or as often happen, another established member will include the link later in the thread.

I don't have anything booked yet either, so will give this sale a go. Somehow I suspect that any availability that weekend will be quickly gone!

...are we there yet?

....and the discount is off the bed and breakfast rate (which is more than $216)

Good point, forgot about that, haha.

The B&B rate is $236 a night currently. So if I can get 2 nights for $236 I’d probably say that was a decent deal and book. To get the extra 20% off, can I join for free?

I just had a look at the sale and the BNE-ADL airfare at $210 return + $7.70 credit looks to good to pass up. I will book tomorrow and worry about accommodation later....

No, it costs to become a Hilton Premium Club member. It's now changed, and you need to get a Macquarie Bank Hilton Platinum Credit Card.

You should head back via Sydney on the Sunday and we can sample both lounges! :p

I am QF766 and QF556 ;) so as long as someone can guest me into the SYD J lounge on arrival, I’m set :p

So annoyed at this new Macq. Bank credit card partnership - I'm not interested in carrying a third credit card around, let alone applying for another one - and not sure whether it's a good look from a credit history point of view to accumulate credit cards...

It's pretty dodgy, Hilton forcing people to get a credit card in order to access their discount program.

And it's for that reason that I won't be renewing my membership.

I do find it a pretty blunt mechanism, particularly as I was badly caught out by it.

I wrote a large, detailed post, and happened to include a link (to the SMH as I recall). I then tried to post and had the system tell me off. The problem is that at that point it didn't allow me to edit (nor display the rejected message so I could copy it) which is a major failing for such a function. It also wouldn't let me go back as it knew that I had already tried posting, so I couldn't get back into the message to edit it in my browser. And refresh just brought up the same rejection message. As such, even though I would have willingly (albeit not happily) removed the link, I could not do anything and just had to close out of that. Result: 1 dissatisfied poster, and 1 lost message due to site configuration.
