Logged into HH to see how much points were to purchase and noticed the promo they have on at the moment - Get Double for no extra cost. Limited offer ends June 17 2015.

So by my calculations and the current promo QANTAS have at the moment with 50% bonus transfer (mentioned on point hacks - haven't confirmed it yet) - 80,000 points @ $800US plus 80,000 bonus, transferred to Qantas with their 50% bonus - so another 80,000 all for $800US (240,000 points) - I've missed something haven't I?!

So.... apart from the dubious idea of buying and sweeping the HH points to something else, anyone else think this buy up idea has merit?

My initial thoughts and rough calculations reveal that the benefits are marginal or limited to specific properties.

I compared the price of buying the points with using them at properties against the paid rate and in nine out of 10 cases it was a bad idea to buy. I really find Hilton's points to be a little like Greece's economy.

Plans to go to a luxury resort in the tropics- Maldives, Bora Bora, Koh Samui.
Plans to Ski Japan- Hilton Niseko
Visit to Tokyo- Conrad Tokyo.

You need to make it worth more than 0.5c US per point (0.005USD).

True... there's quite a few places in London which are habitually very expensive, but using points at 0.5 US cents per point makes them rather reasonable, if you strike at the right time.

But resort locations definitely rate high on the exploit list. As I said, they are rather limited examples, however.

Might be a different case if the AUD was stronger against the USD, but here we are... (In my local case, it is slightly different, though not by much)

I've thought about the "exploit" assumption and I do agree with the term but I find it bemusing that resorts like Conrad Rangali play on the "poor, hard done by" assumption because all those nasty HH Diamonds come and use their points rather than pay, so therefore they restrict HH benefits. Room upgrades for example, is said to be not possible because of limited rooms and high numbers of diamonds staying, yet if you are prepared to pay (handsomely) for an upgrade, suddenly multiple options become available at varying rates.

To add to this "con" (bit harsh. I admit), CR (and others like it) can hold all guests to ransom with the sundry prices as there are no alternatives except to buy everything from CR, from F&B to entertainment. Earlier this year we spent on average US$600 per person per day at Rangali yet at other Hilton properties on the same holiday, which were not so isolated, we would struggle to spent US$100 per person per day as the options were so numerous.

So I submit, we're "exploitees" as much (or more) than we are exploiters!

Isn't anyone else making the most of the bookarestaurant.com promo wth Hilton ? I have been order a coke at glass in Sydney Hilton for $3.50 and receiving 1,500 HH per transaction . I thought a lot of people would have jumped on it

Thanks Shanye2233

Looks good for those staying in Sydney, Surfers, Alice Springs or Darwin

I Have been having breakfast lunch and dinner at Hilton Sydney ! Just make sure you get the booking confirmation email from the wait staff before you leave and I would recommend keeping the reciept just in case. I think I'm over 60 bookings so far

looking forward to Hilton in Fiji soon ;)
