Help with seat selection on Singapore Airlines/Virgin Australia codeshare flights

Flights booked ex Hobart via Melbourne to Singapore. Hobart to Melbourne is on Virgin but the ticket is actually a Singapore booking. Can someone help me work out how to access the Virgin flights for seat selection as it won't allow me as far as I can tell? It is a very tight connection to the Singapore flight departing Melbourne, so I would like to be as forward as possible. Many thanks.

A number of threads discussing the subject in the Virgin Australia forum.

You can try the call centre but basically almost impossible unless you are flying business class and you need to get the SQ PNR reference and then try allocating seats on SQ website. They may do it for you but lots of people have had rejections with only a few successful.

But this advice is for seat selection of Virgin codeshares on SQ flights. As far as I can tell, OP has reverse situation - wants to allocate seats for an SQ codeshare on a flight operated by VA. I assume the answer might be the same - need to get the VA PNR and try allocating via Va website ?

Understand. I initially assumed the same. Most queries are indeed for the VA code on SQ metal.

My experience is similar but different. A VS flight on VA metal. Could not seat select. Tried a few different times and told I had to do it through VS as VA could not do it. I couldn't do it through VS as I had no VS status, only VA. I put it down to an issue with a non-alliance, alliance. In the end, I did end up getting reasonable seats, but I can't for the life of me remember how. (maybe at the airport, maybe via persistence with the GCC).
