Hello all,

this time I really need your help, I am currently Silver and need 120 SC before 30 June to get Gold.
what is the cheapest way to get it ?

thanks a lot in advance !

Where would you be starting such a trip from?

MEL-BNE-CNS return in Flex Y for example would get 120 SC and could be done in the one day. Flying indirect is typically better value than flying direct.

Have you got a loyalty bonus for passing 500 SC on QF flights yet and if not are you close to getting that? There is the option to take 50 SC as the loyalty bonus. If you haven't yet got that or chosen your bonus (if you qualified for it recently and it hasn't yet expired) that would reduce the SC you need to get from flying.

This is pretty late to be planning this. There was a DSC promotion earlier this year. There's currently a 50% promo for QBR members (but that requires an ABN and that the travel be for business (see 50% more status credits with Qantas Business Rewards to 19/6)

Oh yes, I am from SYD.. please let me know and I will book it,
I have few trips coming up and the lounge will be nice !

also, if it is a multi route SC run like SYD->BNE->CNS return, should I book it under one booking ? will it be cheaper or getting the same SC under multiple bookings ?

thanks again

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Flying to NZ via MEL/BNE return in Flex-Y would do it, flying SYD-DPS on QF return (QF43/QF44) in Flex Y would do it.

May also be possible to fly via BNE to CNS but that wouldn't earn as much as flying from MEL so may not be the best value for the number of SC you need.

There are other options too.

When you book e.g. SYD-AKL you'll see options to fly via MEL/BNE. While an extra flight may be a bit annoying if it means getting the SC you need a bit cheaper it's worth it. Flying indirect gets you more SC and may even be cheaper than flying direct.

If you wanted it done in a day. (a very long day at that)
As mentioned you can possibly get a J fare SYD-BNE-CNS and flex Y CNS-BNE-SYD. Or other way around if you want.
Would give you 130SC's.
Depends on what your budget is as this would be in the range of $1400 which at $10.7/SC is expensive.

Or if you wanted to do something this weekend you could also do
SYD-MEL-CHC, CHC-MEL-SYD in Flex Y for exactly 120 for around $1230
Requires an overnight in Christchurch so with accomodation and transfers could be similar cost to the above day trip. Unless you want to burn some points on a hotel or something.

Or pay for qantas club for $540 plus joining fee $400 if necessary.
And, if you do a status run, don't forget to factor in transport - tolls, parking, taxi, train etc depending on which you use

When I suddenly need a few SC, I have done runs Sydney to Cains via Brisbane and still have 3 hours for a beer or three on the esplanade.

Perhaps just do it two days in a row depending on the fares available before June 30.

If you pay using Credit Card the surcharge is capped so the cost may be a little cheaper booking a return booking for domestic. For domestic two one way is priced the same as return. For international flights a return trip can be significantly cheaper than two one way trips.

You can buy a $50 QF gift voucher and then redeem it to avoid the Credit Card surcharge. Vouchers can only be used when you are starting in Australia.

You search for Sydney to Cairns, but pick the indirect flight option going via BNE rather than the direct flight options that are displayed. Similarly if you were to fly to somewhere in NZ e.g. Auckland you’d search for Sydney to Auckland but ignore the direct flight options that appear. You can look at different destinations such as Auckland, Christchurch etc. and see which provides the best value for the dates you’re available to travel.

Gold does give benefits over and above QANTAS Club. Higher points earn, lounge access when flying a OneWorld partner airline even if not on a QF ticket, choice of different lounges at some airports whereas with QANTAS Club you have to use the only lounge QF has arranged access to, higher upgrade priority, higher baggage allowance on QF etc.

All this has a value and it depends what value you put on this.
