Hopefully this is the right place to post!
I'm after 290 credits by the end of October - planned travel probably gets me about 70ish - so any ideas to economically get the rest would be much appreciated.
Plus - I have just activated a 50% more status credits offer... hopefully keep me at plat!!

Where are you located and what is your budget?

Ah sorry, that would have helped!
I'm in Melbourne - and I'd like to do it as cheaply as possible :)

Are you looking for 290 or 220?

At 1.5x you could be looking as low as ~150 on QF... so this really comes down to [-]where you're based[/-], what you're willing to spend and what time you have free?

A business return to NZ springs to mind, but it's not cheap. On QF/a codeshare that would give 160 x 1.5 = 240! You could even have a relax in the lounge on the way over ;)

Just be careful with the conditions of the Bonus SC offers. They often exclude codeshare flights

Hmmmmm, yea, maybe it's going to be cost prohibitive.
I am looking for 290 in total - I'm planning to fly to the UK (on economy) at the end of October (and return in November after my year end). I was thinking the outbound leg might get me the 70ish (maybe a bit more at 1.5).
Outside of work, I try and keep travel to Jetstar!

Had a quick look - Auckland business is $1,700 (more expensive than my return economy flight to the UK!)

Do comfort seats attract the 50% SC bonus?

Look at Cairns, tourist routes are always a bit cheaper, even if you do it twice in three days in Y should get you there.

Also make sure you look into going indirect. MEL - BNE - CNS for just a little more $ perhaps (or maybe a bit cheaper depending on flight loads) than MEL - CNS direct will yield more SCs at a lower rate of $ per SC. I did this run once earlier this year and it helped me get to WP for the first time (I was PS after this trip, but I had other flights that got me the rest of the way). It was a long day, but it was worth it. You could make a weekend of it though if you wanted.

MEL - SYD - CNS is not as good value as MEL - BNE - CNS but if the flight times suit better it's still better than MEL - CNS direct.

Use the points calculator and consider the costs of Y, Flex Y and J, cost of travel to/from the airport, your time etc.

Try to find international destinations to which QF does not fly from MEL so they require a domestic sector.
These are often really good value at a lower price than the domestic sector alone for large number of SCs in J.

'Re: Help finding 290 status credits!'

Where did you loose them?

Northern Queensland tourist destinations are best if you want to stay in AU, but if you are happy to go overseas esseeeayeenn's suggestion would provide the best value.

MEL - SYD domestic in J is 40 SCs one way so (40 + 40) * 1.5 = 120, so nearly half the SCs you need just if you had to do a domestic connection to SYD to go overseas. Even more if you had to go via BNE (but I think the BNE int lounge may be closed at the moment so that may be unattractive). Make sure when booking there's not an i button next to the fare indicating that the domestic connection will be in Y.

Try flying to Noumea via SYD in J.

That's a lot of points and $$$ to get it. Will it be worth it?.

Example:

(return flights)
MEL-CHC via SYD in J $2180
MEL-ADL in Y $280
Overnight cost in CHC $200
Ancillary costs $200

Total $2860 for 290 SC

Thats approx $10 per SC. This is about the going rate at short notice.

Thats a lot of $$$. Is it worth the benefits you may or may not receive in the next annversary especially if you dont fly that much?
