My fiancée and I are stuck! We can't decide on a destination! We have been to Fiji, Thailand (coughet) etc before and not sure if we want to do it again or try somewhere new. We like the higher end of luxury and are looking for a really special hotel to spend out honeymoon, somewhere by the beach!

we are getting married at longitude 131 (also where we became engaged) so the bar will be set high! Can anyone suggest some fantastic hotels in destinations in south east Asia? The timing will be mid October - so is there any where we won't get the miserable constant raining weather?

So a bit of creative freedom - please suggest!!

For me it would have to be the Maldives. The Taj Exotica was absolutely unbelievable and I can't recommend that place enough.

We enjoyed a bungalow over the lagoon water at Bora Bora which is an outer island of Tahiti where in the evening we could turn on an underwater light and along came the manta rays to feed on the plankton.
It is French so of course it can be expensive.

There is currently a business class special to Noumea and the L'Escapade looks amazing. I would love to take my wife there.

My wife and I had an amazing honeymoon in Mauritius - yes I know it's a long way, but we were on our way to South Africa to visit some of her relatives.
We stayed at a place called, from memory, The Residence, and it was awesome. Not overdone, but the service and attention we got was incredible. part of our stay was supposed to be a fine dining experience on the beach (or something like that - I'm a bloke so my memory is shocking!). Anyway it was rained out so they offered to do it for us on our terrace and it was incredible - sent us to the bar for half an hour while they set up and when we returned the room was full of candles, the terrace was covered in rose petals and a lovely table for one set up with music going and our own waiter. Food wonderful, and yes now I remember, we had a butler for our entire stay too.
Price wasn't outrageous, and Mauritius is one of those peaceful places that makes the Earth a world worth saving.
Tropical enough to suit anyone, and enough variety to give you something to do other than lie on the beach.
Final story was that on our return transit through Mauritius (we were flying Air Mauritius J) i left my camera bag in the cab but didn't realise, containing about $3-4K worth of camera gear. Later we get a knock on the door and the concierge says have we lost anytihng. Dawns on me about the camera and then he says don't worry the cabbie found it and was driving it over to us - from the OTHER SIDE of Mauritius where he lived. Then he wouldn't accept a tip or even petrol money. Great people.

As for the Maldives - I'm a dive instructor, have been to some truly amazing tropical places and I'd never go back to the Maldives. Bleached corals, totally overpriced and lazy resorts full of half naked Europeans - and not the nice ones.

Vanuatu is also worth looking at if you are on a budget - you can stretch your dollar a LONG way there.

Another vote for overwater bungalow on Bora Bora. Helicopter flight, jet skiing, paddleboarding, snorkeling, and the best of all was the private motu picnic. Am I selling it?
We went via Auckland and Rarotonga. Rarotonga is very different to Bora Bora (more relaxed but less luxurious) so I'm glad we did both.

Congrats on getting married

I went to Tahiti but not on honeymoon - this would be an amazing place to go - the blue water is just as blue as in the photos enjoy
