Has anyone on here successfully obtain an Air NZ PNR from a VA booking?

SO, I had quite a number of VFF points, earnt from Flybuys, plus some flying.
Made a booking for an Air NZ flight, which went through ok on the VA website.
But on the emailed MMB slip, there is only the VA booking and a VA flight number.
I do know the NZ flight number.
But I don't have on the print out an Air NZ PNR. Nothing on the emailed MMB shows an alpha numeric code ending with H which is the Air NZ PNR.
I did phone up Air NZ and they said they do not have access to the booking as its on VA.
Can I phone up VA and ask for an Air NZ PNR so that I could log into the Air NZ website and do a seat preference.
OR is it not possible.
Feedback from the brains trust, thanks.

Air NZ should be the one to give you their PNR. Look up the Air NZ flight number for your flight (naturally it'll be the one with the same departure time as your VA booking). Then ring Air NZ with your name, departure date and their flight number and ask for their PNR of your booking. They should be able to look it up on the spot. I haven't done it with Air NZ but several times I have booked AA flights using QF points and then been able to ring AA to get their PNR to access the booking on AA's website (which you can't do with QF's PNR). QF didn't have the AA PNR info.

Don't know what booking system Air NZ uses but QF uses "Amadeus" and AA uses the "Sabre" system - and each system generates a different PNR. No doubt VA and Air NZ similarly use different booking systems.

It's been a while but yeah I think you call VA give them the VA PNR and ask VA for the Air NZ PNR. You used to be able to put that into the Air NZ website and then seat select. I think the day after I posted about that NZ changed the layout of their website! I'm on phone at mo so can't check NZ website but you could try inserting the NZ PNR on the NZ website yourself to seat select. There should be some sort of retrieve or manage your booking tab.

This is exactly what I did recently, Lady Lenny and I are heading to ZQN on Sunday (NZ out and VA back) wasn't an issue at all, rang VA and got the PNR and then was able to select our seats for our SYD-ZQN leg via the Air New Zealand website.

VA has the PNR. NZ should be able to find it for you with the ticket number, but it is probably easier to get through VA.

Ive done this in the past with no issues.
cheers,
Ta. I will go down this route.
I did give (Air) NZ a call a while back, and gave my name, no luck, they could'nt look up booking they said.
I will phone VA tel no and on Mon.
Have gotten their premY seat on their 787, (assuming they don't do an equipment swap to a 320), I want window seat.
Thanks everyone for your feedback/experiences on this.

Can't you just log in to the myairnz.com, go to my booking and select "add a missing booking"...enter the departure date and port and the flight number and it should retrieve your booking, with PNR in the details. I did this for VA+NZ booking via a 3rd party website

Without a PNR ending with an H, which is only obtainable if you have booked direct with (Air) NZ which I have done in the past, ie, booked direct, or called VA or if your booking was with SQ, call either of these, you can't get into your booking on the online version of the (Air) NZ website.
I have tried typing in my VA PNR with caps lock on, and also with it off, no luck.
**YOU WILL NOT GAIN ENTRY**, p*** take of course, but that was the impression I got.
So, I will phone VA up tomorrow and get the (Air) NZ PNR.
I am flying end of Sept this year, and there are only 3 rows in premY on the 787, so I might be too late.
But coming back to SYD, there is a 16.05 (Air) NZ 787 plane coming back to Aust, plan to fly back 01 Oct, so might be able to get a window seat for that flight.
PremY with (Air) NZ gives a chance to sit away from the wings, where as the QF 787 have got their premY right over the wings, so no ground view.
Did the LA 800 and the take off from SYD was amazing, its the turn of the plane, and being able to see SYD airport with the turn angle that the 787 has!
Sorry, I do talk too much goo.

As I said in my post, I booked via 3rd party site, but it was ticketed by VA as they were the ones that charged my CC...my booking had both a VA & NZ booking reference...log into myairnz.com and search for the missing booking using your flight details, you don't need the booking reference.

Called VA and they gave me an (Air) NZ PNR not at all the same as my VA PNR.
My email MMB does definitely not have the (Air) PNR.
Au phone number 136789 and pick current international bookings.
OK... So that is now solved.

I assume you need the ticket number to pull up the PNR? You really shouldn't be able to find a PNR with just a name and flight number.

No you don't need ticket number...You need to be logged in to your NZ FF account, so you can't just drag up other peoples bookings as it searches for your last name attached to the FF account

Just to concur with the other previous posters, yes, I have previously obtained an Air NZ PNR for a Virgin Australia booking on an VA-marketed, Air NZ-operated service by calling up Virgin Australia. There were no issues with this as I explained I was looking to select seats for my flight. The call centre person said the easiest way to select seats after obtaining the Air NZ PNR was to call up Air NZ, rather than go through the Air NZ website. hope that helps

Almelb got it right.
Took me a bit of explaining as the girl couldn't find my booking, even after I gave the alphanumerical VA PNR, my English is not the best, and she was a Philippino, but I am not that, so my accent was out.
In the end though, I gave her my name, and she was able to cite correctly my departure time from SYD - AKL, so its on their system.
Usually, the wait time for the "opposition" Aust airline is very long, but I can get my point across fast.
With this VA phone call, the wait time was about 2 mins, but its more so the explaining of what I needed, and that she couldn't find my booking at first, that was the hiccup.
I think that VA still needs a lot of catch up to do, in comparison to QF.
I got my prized window seat, but can't move it from row 25 on the 787 to 24, without phoning up (Air) NZ.
BUT, gotten my window seat, thats ok enough, I guess.
Windows7 on laptop won't open the manage bookings section of (Air) NZ website, kept saying try again later, even with the correct (Air) NZ PNR, but on my Android phone its will accept the 6 alphanumerical PNR on the mobile (Air) NZ website.
Last alphanumerical has to be an H for it t work.
So, thats it then.
