I can no longer find this return itinerary on the HA website. The individual flights SYD-HNL-JFK still exist, but are far more expensive as separate flights. I also tried their price calculator and it returns zero options in any month

At first I thought it was because I was using a VPN, so I tried from work, and I tried different browsers, I even installed the HA app

VA only brings up options on VA1/VA7 to LAX then DL to NYC

Anyone have any insights?

Alternatively, are the any other creative options for East Coast USA on velocity without having to endure LAX/SFO? Is Atlanta worth a stopover?

I'm not sure about the HA issue. However you could consider routing on NZ SYD-AKL-IAH-JFK if your goal is to avoid the west coast.

I personally don't think Atlanta is worth a stopover, but I'm sure there are a few things one could find interesting...

consider routing on NZ SYD-AKL-IAH-JFK .

Thanks, I'll check it out. Any comments or opinions on Dallas vs Austin vs Houston for a 'Texas experience' stop over?

Johnson Space Centre! I went to Kennedy SC and loved it

I too was interested in a similar itinerary SYD-HNL-JFK on HA with a stopover on the return in HNL. Ended up speaking to a travel agent friend of mine who said she can book the itinerary for me.

Sometimes you might have to reach out to a travel agent for assistance.

I find Houston quite boring (sprawling malls and suburbs) but the Space Center is definitely an iconic and world famous spot to see.

Of the three, Austin is by far the most interesting. Dallas/Ft Worth can be more stereo-typically Texan (Austin has Texas in its blood but much more liberal). San Antonio is worth a look as well. But if someone only had one city to see I'd say Austin by a Texas mile.

Thanks again. I checked out Houston online this afternoon and nothing (other than NASA) really grabbed me - then I got distracted by a cruise from NYC to Nova Scotia :D

curiously the web site allows you to book one way to new york via honolulu but it wont book the return leg. id give hawaiin a call.
