Although they (via JQ) have Mel to themselves.

Why have a bloodbath v Hawaiian in BNE when you can have Mel to yourself?

Conveniently cosy for JQ at the moment, NZ had AKL to themselves but HA have moved in.

What is HA's 767 product like?

For Y passengers both QF and HA B763s are 2-3-2, according to SeatGuru the main Y cabin seats in QF have 31" seat pitch and in HA has 32" seat pitch.

HA First also has superior seat pitch of 42" but the seats are narrower than QF International J recliners which have 37" pitch but are wider (since the QF cabin is 1-2-2 vs HA 2-2-2).

Would really come down to the price on the day for me......

QF has 50inch on the 767 in J. It's a good example of a new route being viable with old equipment, food for thought ;)

OK thanks for the info - and just realised I was looking at Seatguru's QF B763 Intntl V2 not the current QF B763 Intntl V3 - in which case the seatguru stats for QF B763 V3 are correct and J has a 50" pitch.

So QF B763 J class much better than HA First. But HA B763 standard Y seat is 1" (on average) better than the seat pitch on QF Y B763.

OK thanks for the info - you would have thought Seatguru would have updated the details of the QF B767 International Configuration, its not like it changed last week or anything....

i think their V3 is mixed with ver 2.

Nice..
Once again QF being a little out of touch with the Hawaii demand ex BNE catchment. Some of my clients have told me the Hawaiian flights are all round pleasant BNE/HNL/BNE

Depends whether or not your consider a 3 year old seated behind you kicking your seat for the entire 10 hour flight is pleasant.

That aside, ex HNL it's a day flight so at least you're not having to try & sleep on the plane & with a late afternoon arrival back in BNE it's easy to slip back into your routine. I never get jetlag coming back that way so it's a good option if you have to go back to work the next day.

It feels more like a low cost carrier pretending to be full service. IMO you are not a 'full service airline' if:

a) everyone has to check in at airport kiosks for international flights ex HNL - it is a coughbersome process & a real PITA particularly with a family
b) you have to pay for inflight entertainment (if they remember to load the mobile eftpos machines to charge you)
c) if you have to pay for snacks (if they remember to load the mobile eftpos machines to charge you)

The meal you get is a very basic no frills no choice affair - no bread roll or cheese & bickies served with it. A transcon flight on QF or VA is far superior. They have these comms boxes under each aisle seat (B,C,J seats) H is the only one without the leg space impeded.

On our flight there was 6 hours in between the lunch & the high tea without any meal/snack served - they did come around with water. You wouldn't fee as hungry if you had eaten a substantial meal but what they serve isn't enough to sustain you until the next snack.

The company HA use to provide the snacks & the IFE tablets forgot to load the mobile eftpos machines which meant pax didn't have the option to purchase snacks nor rental the tablet as HA had no means to charge them. They do have IFE however you didn't really know what was going to be shown as there isn't really a proper entertainment guide in the flight magazine so none of the movies they say could be shown was in fact shown. Just remember if you do bring your own devices there isn't any in seat power to recharge them so whatever you have needs to last 10 hours.

Above is lunch which is served about 1.5 hours ex HNL

Pretty dreadful but I hear it will change to the A330's within a year.

I don't think the being on an A330 would make much difference to be honest. Same dog different leg.

I have been on both albeit in J but have looked at the Y cabins too. Simply having a fresh feeling cabin with new seats, USB and AVOD makes a difference to the experience surely. The new J the seats are clunky recliners but again a step up from what was on the 767, greater pitch, better storage, power and USB and of course it looks better. Certainly a more comfortable experience but still not a great product.
