GVA to FRA on LH, no show for return

Hi all,
Need to travel from GVA to FRA in Sept one way only. LH has ridiculous one way fares (>$1000) so a RT ticket may be the way to go ($280). Any issues with just not doing the return leg? BA has one way fares of around $245 but that means going via LHR...
From FRA I'll be heading home on JAL.
cheers
Bert

I don't see any great hassle in booking a return flight and not showing up for a return. There are plenty of no shows. If possible use OLCI for the return flight and then not turn up to the airport or call them saying you cannot make the flight due to unforeseen circumstances. The worst they could do is try to charge you the airfare for the one-way flight but that happens very rarely.

It would only really be an issue if the first or subsequent legs in an itinerary are missed then the airline may cancel the remainder of the booking.

I book these flight clients all the time on LH and other european airlines who continue to charge exorbitant one way fares, never ever had a problem.

Read their T&C;s just to be sure and if you've got a concern, go and pay cash with your local FC and get them to ticket it so they dont have your CC.

Indeed. I had a TA book me on a "throwaway" (on BA) the last ticket trip, and it worked out fine.

Some airlines aggressively chase no-shows, but they are few - and often need to be provoked by many similar no-shows.

BA has been known to chase certain people, but I doubt the OP is within their cross hairs.

Sorry if off-topic, but have you considered taking the train instead ? 1st class train ticket including seat-reservation fee for mid-August is only 116 euros (~AUD 164). Have a look at bahn website (www dot bahn dot de). It only allows you to book tickets 92 days out(which is why I priced August), but I can't see the September price being pricier than August as August is still high season. Travel time airport to airport is 6 hours.

Good point about the train, I usually use the high speed trains in Germany and the connections look reasonable. Will have a look at that too.

And the trains usually operate from "down town" locations which can save a lot of time and transfer costs if you want to start and end your journey actually in the city of origin/destination rather than airports that may be many miles away.

Or in the case of FRA the train may take you directly to the airport to get your onwards flight without needing to bother with going into the city

yes indeed, a viable option even for onward FRA connections.
